There were eight Queens present, and four Kings, a great num- ber of the Nobility, and 30,000 of I lie, Impe- rial Guards. Paris was one continued scene of fêtes and illuminations during the week. A letter received at Liverpool from Mosit- serrat, dated flhe 6¡h February, states the important-intelligence, of the greater part ,of the Cork fleet having been destroyed by the enemy. There is much reason to apprehend that the French frigate, which-appeared off shortly after its surrender, and which was chased hy the Blende and Melampus frigates, haseièrted her escape in consefjijence of her superior sailing. The Blonde had returned to Guada. loupe, having lost all traces of the enemy, and when the Melampus was last seen by her, she was losing ground. The Melampus does not, however, appear, by our Antigua letters or papers, to have returned to any of the Leeward Islands in the early pari of the last month, and it is possible that she may have succeeded in tile object of her chase, arid that the report of (he Liverpool Captaiu seen a British frigate in company with a French frigate, her prize, may allude to the vessels in question.

For the accommodation of mariners, who may make long voyages, which may lake tip many years, and lo enable them at future periods to ascertain the longitude at sea, from the tables, &c. &c. that. constitute a part of this pabit- cation, the Almanacks are published for some years, previous to their coming into date, and the Almanack makers, in general, copy a part of their Almanacks, from this publication. The Astronomers, begin to reckon their hours, from noon, or in other words, begin their day at noon, and count the hours, in regular succession, consisting of 24, to the nest noon. If the Nautical Almanack, for thisyear, he in"pected, it will npp-ear, that the period of full moon, was on the twentieth day of March, at 14 .hours 31 minutes;- this period, in the l'om III Oil A Imallack s, is stated, 11 Ftill Moon file 21sl day at 31 minutes past 2 in the morn- ing," whereas according to the astronomical icai mode of computation, llic 2tst day did not commence ldlthe noon of that day, accord- ing to the vulgar computation but the pc. riod of full moon having been 9 hours, 29mi- nutes, prior to that instant, must have been oil the 20th day, so that the period of the next, or Paschal, full moon taking place up. on (he 19th day of April, at 3b. 8m. orae cording to the vulgar mode of reckoning, the 19th day at 8m. past U in the evening. The first class of the Dutch institute have lately added Mr. Nicholson, and Mr. Arthur Young, to their corresponding members. Cardiff Races are lixed for the 3d, 4th, and 5th of July next; and Swansea for the 17th, 18th, and 19th of the same month. An Horticultural society has been lately es- tablished at Edinburgh, nearly on the ptau of that of London. The Earl of Daikeith is chosen president, and Sir J. Ball vice presi- dent.
