RUMOTJRB of an approaching pacification continue to circulate—that the enemy will make some proposals to that effect, is more than probable; but upon what basis an over- ture can be made, capable of reconciling the interests of this country with the ambition of France we cannot conjecture. Every man, we are sure, woutd deprecate any sticit peace as that of Amiens, when. this country gave up all she had acquired during the war, for a suspension of arms of little more than a year, and what the enemy could never have reco- vered by a continuation of hostilities. On Monday last a sad calamity befel the family of Owen Williams, Esq. of Temple- House, near Great Marlow :—The house was full ofvisitors, and the fairness of the morn- ing tempted a small parly to take an aquatic excursion Col. Hughes, M. P. for Wxili iig-, ford, Miss Bisset, Mr. Cavendish Bradshaw, and Mis Hughes, sister of Mrs. Oweii Willi- ams, entered the pleasure boat; which was imperceptibly drawn towards the weir, or by some called bucks, the flash boards of which were lip.
