,The acconnts of the Quarter's Revenue were made public at a late hour on Saturday evening. They verify ail that we have said of (he progre^ sive improvement in the finances of the empire i and, what is still more gratifying, they present the most marked increase in those classes of taxes whose productiveness furnishes the index of national prosperity. We are not aware that, any thing need be oftered in confirmation of this preposition, or that the flattering prospects held out by the skate of the Revenue admit of denial or qualification.

Our readers were informed some weeks ago, that our remonstrances on the dangerous state of the pavement through this City, had at length received attention. We would wish, if it was possible, that in ataking the improvement, which is to he according to the mode adopted by Mr. M'Adafn, a certain portion of the street might be completed, instead of opening the drains, and taking fill the pavement throughout the whole length, which has, for the tioae, if possible, in- creased the danger ten-fold. FLINTSHIRE EISTEDDFOD.- The high patron- age Which this and the grand objects, it embraces, excite an un- precedented interest in the circuit it commands. Far ftotn intending (his as a rival ''institution, or 8s a separate object from the other national establishments, if! purpose is only to supply that deficiency which the distance of their ensuing anniversaries has created. The design was laid before the grand jury of the county of Flint, at the last assizes it met with their warm apprftbation, and they immediately entered into a subscription towards its support; while that ■patriotic Baronet, Sir E. P. Lloyd, readily ex- erted his weighty interest in its behalf, and pro- mised to preside at its proceedings. Such were tiecircumstaoces that gave rise to the Flintshire lostitution, the celebration of which will, no doubt, furnish to the lovers of Celtic manners and Gelric song, a treat of the very highest kiod —a treat of more variety than has yet been offer- eft lô sons of Cambria. Here every branch of Welsh literature is encouraged, in prose, in poe- try, in oratory, in minstrelsy, in the composition of song, and in its performance; nor is the taste Of the Saxonian guest forgotten—a premium is offered for the best English essay upon the utility of such meetings." The inhabitants of every country are even tenacious of (he innocent customs of their ancestors can it he denied to the descendants of the Cimbri ? The pilbroch of the Scottish Highland thrills his sont with de- light, and inspires him to deeds of glory and why should not the sweet tinkling haq) of Cymru have a similar effect upon her sons, in binding them still closer to the mountains they trod in their infancy, and recalling to their minds those traditions which were fostered first aod most ujiou thsir laemoi'ie*? -=-=.
