CHRISTMAS IN THE CHURCHES. Owning to Chriatniias falling on Sunday, no special services were held in the local churches, but carols were sung in the evening, the con- gregiatioeis being unusually large. In St. Tho- mas' Church the ar;;thems "Christmas Awake" and "Blessed bo th3 Ic-rd" were rendered. At the Parish Church two carols, specially com- posed by the Rev. John Davies (a well-known prize winner at Eisteddfodau) wore suing. The following is a list of the decorators of the seve- ral ohurdhee St.. Thomas'.—Mrs Tidswell, .i.3CS Lloyd, Miss Riley. Mr amd Mns Huimphrejs, Mrs Josihua Davies, Master Alec. Davies, Misses "v Beale, Mrs Lloyd Jones, Miss N. Grandaoe, Miss Bkkeney, Miss Edge, Mr H. Edge, and Mifis Talbotr^ Holy Trinity.—Mrs Lewis Jones, Mr and Miss Mourjtfordi, Mirs Pierco Lc-wis, Mrs Evans, Mrs Payne, Mrs Hugilice, Miss Oorbett-J ones, Miss Da vies. St. John's.—Miss Liveeey, Misses Pearson, Mrs Vaughan, Mis? St. Ann's.—Numerous members of the con- gregation eemt gifts of flowers, etc., and1 assisted in the decorations. At St. Mary's R.C. Church, the usual mass was celebrated on Christmas Eve, the oedebrant being the R'"v. Father Higby. On Christmas Day solemn mass was held at 10.30 a.m., being followed by the Benediction. The Rev. Farther R;.by was the oedebrant,, and; he was assisted by the Revs. Fathers Slator and Erring- ton. The sacred edifice was, as usual, beauti- fully diecorated. The ladies responsible for the dteoorationis were Miss Fazakerley, Misses Hands, Mies EtJhol Davie, Mrs May, Miss Bader, and Master J. Maemanus aLso assisted. At tho Queen-street Congregational Chapel, special preaching meetings were heM, the preaoher beinig the Rev. Mr James, of Buckley.
