The service was preceded by the singing of "Trwy ddirgel ffyrdd" and a prayer. The St. Paul's Juvenile Choir, conducted by Mr Wm. Jonos, Brynafon, gave excellent render- ings of the following choruses: "Ring out, yo bells," "Over tho mountain,' "Behold the Chdd," "Hushed was the world, "The Lord is my Shepherd," What is that which shines afar?" "Hallelujah," and "To prabe the Lord." The superintendent of the school (Mr John R. '? that around the n,me of tile go,itl4-,man sa, Child of Bethlehem the greatest minds of the last 2000 years had gathered together. In the realms of science and poetry, music and art, the noblest works had Jesus for a subject. What large town in England or Walo3, he remarked, ever allowed the birthday of Jesus Christ to pass without aranging a performance of Handel's "Messiah," a work in which the divine bubbled throughout "Behold the Man," the popular painting at the Liverpool Art Gallery, had, he believed, been the means of bringing many a wandering heart to the great Saviour's 'feet. The gospel of Christ, introduced into Japan but very recently, had regenerated that country in a busi- ness tense and also in an intellectual and spiritual sense. Of the character of Jesus, tho sceptic John Stuart Mill said he did not think a more perfect or purer character than Jesus of Nazareth could ever be found. In whatver direction they looked they could see that all things bore some relation to the: Child whose birthday they were that day celebrating. The service concluded with the singing of Mor- gan Rhys' "Pcraidd ganodd ser y bore."

It should also be mentioned that before break- ing up for the Christmas holidays the pupils at BSencathra School brought a large selection of toys, which they distributed themselves among the patients. On Friday afternoon Mrs Storey gave a suit- able present to every ward patient, and Mr Perks, as in former years, personally gave everyone 111 the hospital a new sixpence and a kindly greet- ing. A very nice Christmas tree, laden with pretty ornaments and crackers, as well as a number of toys, was supplied for the Duke Ward by Mrs Strutt and her children. PROVISION FOR THE POOR.
PROVISION FOR THE POOR. The traffic this year, both on the railway and in the POb-t Office has been cxoeedirsgly heavy, and the returns show a marked improvement on thoi-e of last year. The-re was very little delay ir> dealing with the heavy .mails and parcels, and at the railway station the time-tables were well adhered' to. The bookings by the early train on Chirist.mas rnorming for Crewe and other English towns was above the average, and showed that the J hop assistants and others fully appreciate the facilities the railway company afford at holiday tirue. The poor were well oared, for duos year, and Mr W. J. P. Storey's generosity agtain provided many with food and fire. The tickets distribu- ted for hot pots, bread, 00al and' groceries ex- ceeded) the ruurnber of previous years, and so well provided were the bakehouses wiotŒ1 hot- pots that when ail comers were satisfied: several roriiiaamed over. The hot-pots were niada in the Corn Exchange con, Saiturday by Miss Williams (late of the Alexandra Hotel, who was assisted by a number cf helpers. The [hot-pots were dis- tributed on CthfTLBtnMs momi.-W, and mc-nibers of the Pcor Relief Committeei (who umdertook the work for Mr Storey) paid a vicit to cac-h place. The SQlUP kitchen was also opened on Tuesday, and1 a large quantity of soup was dis- ti'lbutedi, wiiiie the romaininrg hot-pots were also handed' over to the mors? desea-ving poor. This is the sixth ycair in succession that Mr Storey has borne the enitire cost, of providing for the poor of lthyl at Cihriitetmas. No genuine a.ppli- cationB were refused by the membsTS of the commdttce who had charge orf tickets, and there is no doubt that Mr Storey's k ax t is thor- oughly appreciated by the recipients. The Rhyl Town Band, on Christmas Eve, played in tine principal streets of the town. The band' 'his improved very much of late, and in their new uniform the me>rnb3rs looked very smart. There we.rc 'aieo about the town several parties of caaxjl singers.
