SOUTH WALES MINERS I ACOniiE LABOUR COLLEGE I THE EXECUTIVE IN COUNCIL. A meeting of the Executive Council of the South Wales Miners' Federa- tion was held at Cardiff on Saturday, Mr J. Winstone presiding. Mr T. Richards, M.P., the general secretary, and Mr Alfred Onions, the general treasurer, were also present. The Council was chiefly concerned with the consideration of the draft scheme for the acquiring of the Cen- tral College by the National Union of Railwaymen and the South Wales Miners' Federation. Mr, W. P. Nicholas, the solicitor, attended the conference and explained the scheme, which was adopted. Mr Walter Lewis .and Mr Noah Rees were appointed trustees of the college on behalf of the I Council. A report was received upon the In- terview which had taken place between the Prime Minister and the Miners' Federation of Great Britain Com-, mittee respecting the resolutions of the conference held in London a fort- night ago upon the question of an in- crease in the old age pensions allow- ance and the Military Service Bill. It was stated that the Prime Minis- tor had expressed his full sympathy I with the desire of the Federation re- specting old age pensioners, and pro- mised to confer with the Chancellor of the Exchequer and other Cabinet Ministers on the matter. Mr Herbert Samuel, who accom- panied the Prime Minister, impressed upon the deputation that they need have no fear that the amended Mili- tary Service Bill would result in any form of industrial conscription. A conference of the M.F.G.B. has been called to further consider the Military Service Bill on the 8th Feb. Messrs. Ben Davies, Walter Lewis, and George Barker were appointed to at- tend. • —
