Tlie solo siriging in this anthem for soprano and baritone Was exceedingly well done by Miss JfiHen Moses aNd Mr. Stanley Jones. Afiss Gwladys Hmvells and chorus of |>irlrs gave a very sweet rendering ef "Thor(!'s room for Mary there" (Tor- rey Alexander). During the evening the conductor bv special request, sang 4"m0 verses dedicated by Rev*. J. T. Job to a Welsh soldier dying in Meso- potamia. Rev. W. P. Jones spoke a j t few words and closed the meeting with ? Much of the success of the a nfa is due to the local conductors 1 rs. J. Dyfrig Owen, Dd. J. Evans a.. Chas. Pedrick, who were untir- ing in their efforts to bring the choir to such perfection. The committee, if which Mr. W. D. Owen was chairman, Mr. Michael Thomas, vice-chairman, Mr. J. Phillips, treasurer, and Mr. Phillip Lewis, secretary, are to be > Complimented upon a splendid pro- gram. Messrs. Jonah Powell and R. Davies were the accompanists for the day. A hearty reception, was given to Gunner Lewis Morgan Williams, son of Mr and Mrs. Morgan Williams, Ys- tradowen, on. his arrival home on a short leave from Braadstairs,- where he has been under training TOT many months. A competitive concert was held at Cwmllynfell Chapel 031 Boxing day, when there was a large audience. The Rev. Janes, of Ooh, Ywaun, Gwmllyafcil, who has been successful during the Xmas holidays in winning the soprani solo a-t Brynammaii on Saturday. while Boxing day s-lic won the soprar.o solo at CwmllynfeH. On Boxing day aStervt-m a benefit football match was played between Cwmllynfell Sirigles and Cwmllynifef] Marrievl. The married was the bette team, of cofurse. Pte. David Price, of the R. Gongratulatjorw; to "Gweledydd," Lower Cwmtwrch, who took the prize at Morriston eisteddfod on Boxing day for a "cvwydd" on Y Gad-air Ddu." Over 2100 was realised a-s the re- sult of the jumble sale held at Cwm- twrch on December 20th. Having re- gard to the local difficulties, this is a great credit to all who worked to make the sale a success. In the report of the sale published in last week's issue the following names should have been included in the list given., as of per-, eons who contributed in no small measure towards the success of the sale. They were Mr David Morgan, Myrtle Hiill; Miss May Morgan, Berrington villas and Mies Jane Morgan, Rainbow H;ll. We feel that friends who took such 3JI active in- terest in the enterprise are worthy cf public acknowledgement, and fef 1 t our duty to correct the omission which occurred through oversight. Cadet Cecil Thomas, son of Mr T. R. Thomas, schoolmaster, who is w, tli the R.F.C., returned to Hastings this week after being home over Xmas. Rev. Tom Da-vies, Llandyssul, preached at Ebenezer on Sunday last. The Rev. J. Dyfnallt Owen preached at the anniversary service at Rhos- amman on Sunday. Pte. M. S. Hopkin, who joined the Cyclists Corps, and who is a son of Mr. a.nd Mrs. SI. Hopkin, Ynistredeg, has come home from hospital. He now expects to be shortly drafted out for I the second time, although he has a memento of his previous visit in the form of a bullet in the back. Prior to enlisting, he was a student for the ministry. A movement has been commenced to present Cojin/cillor John Hughes (Llynfellydd), on the occasion, of his completing 20 vears as secretary of the Cwmllynfell Chapel. The presen- tation, which will be a public one, will take the form of a roll-top desk, and twill be made shortly. Mr W. Owen, Gwys, took half the prize at Ctvmgorse eisteddfod on Box- ing night for an essary on "Yn nghenau'r sach maie cynhilio." It is with regret that we note the death of Mr W. Jones, farmer and cattle dealer, of Cwmllynfell farm, which took place on Sunday. On Satur- day morning, it appears that deceased was in company with his son, crossing the mountain, when he was taken ill. He returned home, but in spite of every attention, died as stated on Sun- day. Deceased, who owas 64 years of age, leaves a widow aind seven grown up children. The funeral took pla-oe on Thurs-. day at CWlrullynfeil. De-ceased was well known through- out South Wales, as he travelled con- siderably as a cattle dealer and farmer. The dttath took place on Friday at a Reading hospital of Corpl. John Thomas, son of the late John Thomas, ana Mrs. Thoma-s Gorshir. He was attached to the S.W.B., and had been wounded im France in the nghti?g at Cambrai. Deceased was 36 years of age, and was at one time a well- known footballer. The body was brought home on. Price, of the R.E., was also presented at the same meeting, and also by the Sunday school class at Cef 11 b rynb r ain Amongst the local men home over the holidays were: Mr R. E. Jones, schoolmaster at Woolwich. He has attended the Xmas morning service at Cwmllynfell without a break for the last 3.5 veours with the exception of this year's service, being unable to arrive at Cwmllynfell for Xma. Mr Toun Jctmes, Gox-shii-, an assist- ant master at Birmingham; M r Sam Morgan. Llangammaroh; and Mr Dl. Rees, Llanwrthyd. all schoolmasters, a-re home at Cwmllynfell. Pte. John Williams, Welsh. Guards, son off Mr and Mrs. John Williams, was wounded at Cambrai, and is now at a Reading hospital, progressing favourably. This is the third time for him to be wounded. I
