I FROM THE AMMAM VALLEY. At Ammajiford 8n Tuesday a now auction mart.to meet the requirements of the Meat Order was instituted, with Mr. W. N. Jonea aa auctioneer. There was a large number of farmers and butchers in attendance, but very few catde were forthcoming. It was evident that the farmers of the district did not fully understand the meaning of the Order, and at a meeting held after- wards it was decide<I the mart should bo continued at Amma-nford one day in the month, the next being nxed for January 23rd. The farmers and but- chers present undertook to canvass the district and explain the position to the other farmers. Mr. W. N. Jones was also the auc- tio!i(,(,r at LIandilo Mart on Monday, when about 800 she-ep and lambs and 200 pigs were offered, but only 29 cattle were brought in instead of the usual 1.50. Sheep and calves realised abnormal prices. Thp cattle were grad- ed by the auctioneer and divided as far aS possible among the butchers present. The Ammanford Free Church Coun- cil is calling the serious attention of the t'hurches to an alarming increase in drunkenness among young people, as we)! as the prevalence of a&sociated with billiard playing, the unwholesome influence of dancing chs- aes upon morals, and the low tono of morality in general in the trn-.n.
