YSTALYFERA NOTES. I A meeting of the Ystalyfera Auxil- iary of the British and Foreign Bible .Society took place at the Wern Vestry on Monday evening, when the Rev. J. Thomas, Gumos, presided. The Rev. W. Cr wys Williams, Swansea, ad- dressed the gathering at length on Mitssion work, and his discourse uw thoroughly appreciated. Officers for the present year were appointed, the Rev. J. Sectundus Jones, B.A., being elected president in the plaice of Mr. E. G. Benthall, J.P., winlst Mess-rs. J. G.. Jones, and E. John were re- elected secretary and treasurer respec- tively. Our readers will be pleased to learn that the Ystalyfera choir is to be again re-started, under the conductor ship of Mr Jack James. íA practice will take place at the English Conogre- gational Church on Sunday at 3.30, when a!il -members are earnestly re- quested to attend. I A number of local men who are now engaged on munition work at Mother- it ell, have been home on holiday dur- ing the last week, and looked exceed- ingly- well. Copl. J. The programme being shown this week at the Coliseum is unusually good even for this haJl, w hioh has ^.aijied such a fine reputation for shovk ing only the best. "MaoLste" the star- film is what is called by picture-gbere a "super-film," u in six parts, a drama in which the giant Italian actor and soldier plays tho leading part. The rumour that Maciate had been killed in action on the Italian front, which gained currency some time ago, proved happily false. It is true that ho was wounded, but latest reports claim that he is now suffering only from an unusually large appetite. It is a picture that will DO GOOD to I Jtnybody to see. The other big attrac- tion this week is the presentation of Patlw's famous serial "Patria," which is claimed by the firm as their "Best Yet." Next week, Baby Marie Os- borne will gladden all hearts with her winsome ways. To those who have al- ready seen the acting of this wonder- ful child at the Coliseum, the mere mention of her name is sufficient guar- antee of a truly delightful picture. Those who have not seen her should give themselves a genuine treat. The Wern Chapel Vestry was filled to its utmost on Wednesday evening, when a miscellaneous programme was given by the children, under the con- ductorship of Misses Mary Davie. Curwen House, and Millie Price, Luck- now House. Mr 1). E. Parry presided, and Mr E. J. Thomas acted con- ductor. The accompanists were: Misses Ma'j^ie Price and M. A. Jones. The clukinen did their work without a hitch, and reflected credit upon them- sel ves and their instructresses. "The Miinstrel Boys. who gave a variety of songp, choruses, and dialogue, were vociferously encored, aikl "Macna. majra's Band," under the able con- duet.orship and control of Master Ivor Jones, had also to make a second ap- pearance. At the meeting of the Ddraig Gooh Society on Wednesday evenmg, the Rev. Ben Davies, Pantteg, gave an interesting address on "Trebor Mai," the famous NWth Welsh 'englynwr' of the 18th century. Mr. Davies gave se- lections of the bard's work, and gave an outline of his life and his relation- ship with the bards of his time. Mr. Ben Jones, M.A., occupied the chair, and at the conclusion a vote of thanks was proposed to the speaker by Mr. Fredk. Rees, seconded by Tarrenydd, and supported by Messrs. D. G. Wil- liams and J. Williams. Caersalem Chapel was filled on Thursday afternoon and evening, when the Rev. H. C. Mander, the popular minister, of Mount Pleasant Baptist Chapel, Swansea, preached able ser- mons. His discourses, as usual, were greatly appreciated. Mr. John Evans, Darren-view, who joined the colours about a fortnight ago, has undergone his teste at London as a motor driver attached to the R.F.C., and has successfully passed his examination. M rs. Dd. Bowen and daughter, de- sire to thank through the columns of the "Labour Voice, all who sent floral tributes and who expressed sym- pathy with them in their recent be- reavement. The large number of let- ters received from all parts make it impossible to reply in each individual case. In the report of the funeral last week the floral tribute sent by "Fera" was not acknowledged. Mrs. Rees Rees (50 wife of Mr. Rees Rees, Gnoll-road, Godre'rgraig, died under tragic circumstances on Wed- nesday. Deceased received a telegram on Tuesday to the effect that her son in-law, Pt. T. Jenkins, was lving seriously ill at an Essex hospital, and if hi.s wife desired to see him alitve she should proceed to Essex immediate- Iv. The excitement of preparing her daughter for the journey is believed to kave brought about an attack which Mrs. Rees had on the road in the eveninc. from which she died as stated on Wednesday. Prof. D. Miall Edwards, of Brecon, ci-eated a profound impression by his sermons at Gurnos Chapel on Satur- day evening and Sunday. On Monday evening he lectured at the Gurnos under the ^auspices of the Mutual Im- provement Society* on "Crefydd a Gwareiddiad." He dealt with his sub- ject in an entertaining manner, and pleased all with his able address.
