Hopkins, who has come -:Ins, w L o has come all the way from Melbourne in defence of tlie mother country, has been in hospital for four months under trcat- ment. The CwmHynfeil S. and S. Society are deserving of the highest praise for the success of their efforts in collecting j funds to hen ur local lads on their re- turn to t' • plaoe from active service. It is intended to hold a series of concerts and sports to further augment the funds and ar- rangements have also been made with the Rhus Dramatic Society to present a drama at Cwmllynfell on March 9. The death took place on Wednesday of hist week of one of the oldest in- habitants of the district, i:i the person of Mrs. Davies, widow of the late Mr. ] Dd. David (Cwtch), Rhiwfawr. De- ceased had reached the ripe age of 91, a.nd was highly respected. The funeral took place at Cwmllynfell on Saturday, the. cortege being a very large one. The Rev. J. Jeremy Jones was the offi- ciating minister. Driver Dd. John Thomas, son of Mr Emlyn Thomas, Cwmllynfell who is with the Transport Service, has been home on furlough. Cwmllynfell is always to the fore in assisting charitable objects, and dur- ing the week a house-to-house canvass of the place has been made in aid or the "Evening Express" Prisoners of i- Fund. On Tuesday evening a meeting of the Lower Cwmtwrch Welsh Society took place at Bethel Chapel, when Mr. Daniel Jones gave an interesting address on "A ellir osgoi rhyfel yn y dyfodol?" A discussion afterwards took place. Mr. T. R. Thomas presided. On Friday evening last the Rev. LIew. Bowyer, Danygraig, Pontardawe gave a lecture under the auspices of the Cwmtwrch branch of the I.L.P. Mr. T. H. Williams was in the chair. There was a good attendance at the Drill Hall, Gurnos, on Thursday even- ing, when a. concert arranged by Mrs G. H. Strick was held. The proceeds were equally divided between the Ys- tradgynlais and Ystalvfera War Emer- gency Committeo. Councillor H. J. Powell, J.P., Ystalvfera, proved all able chairman, whilst Miss May Bra7Æ,1j a-id Mr. Elvet Morgan were the accompanists. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks to the artistes was carried on the projio&ition of the chairman, seconded hv Mr. Owen Powell, whilst a vote of thanks to the chairman was proposed by Mr. Owen Powell and seconded by Mr. J. Pir.cke Lee. The follow nig programme was given: Songs, Mr. John Morgan, Miss Gwen Lewis, Mr. D. ft. Hopkin. Miss Mary Evans, Miss Moses; cornet solo. Miss Kate Morgan; pianoforte solo. Hopkin; cor- net solo, Miss Morgan, .song, MÎ&3 Moses and Miss Lewis; quartette, "Good-night, belevcd," and "God Save the King." At the Central Hall Eisteddfod.
