I On, Sunday evening at Alltwen f Chapel, a presentation meeting was held, when Sub. -Lieut. T. P. Francis, of the Royal Naval Air Service, whose home is at Bronyrallt( was tho guost of the evening. Mr E. Hughes Daviee presided i\X the piano. Amidst manifestation of general re- gret, the ftineral of Miss Annie Jane Thomas, eldes-t daughter of Mr Dd. Thomas, caretaker at the Higher Ele- ,nikmtary Schools, took place -on Tues- day, when the remains were interred at A lit won grjfreyard. Amongst th ose present at the funeral were deceased's fellow scholars of the Ystalyfera C'euhty School. Miss Davies was 17: t.?a'rs of a.ge, and had been in failing !h?th &rv some time. Mills, painter and decorator, Railway terrace, Alltwwn, met with a rather serious accident last week-end, while oarying out a contract • at the Old Reading Room, Pontardawe. Mr Mills fell from the top of a ladder, a dis- taraoe of about 30 feet, breaking his cright ann and left anklc-. We hope he will have a speedy recovery. I CVmsid-eralble interest is belng taken in the sacred concert to be held next Sunday evening at 8 o'clock, under the auspes of the. Dr. Logan Dahne Lodge of the R. A. O. B., with the ob- ject of -swelling the war memorial fund established by the Gran d Lodge of England. The concert will take I place et tihe Pavilion, which has been kindly lent by Councillor L W Francis and Mr Steele Parry. The District j Council has granted permission to hold the affair. The artistes are: Miss Hannah WiQ- liam, Yniatawe (National Winner); Miss Olwen Morgan, Pontardawe, the wpular contralto; Mr D. C. Jones, the, well-known South Wales tenor; Mr Erasmus Morgan; bass. The funeral of the late Mrs. Alie.e Lowis, All-tvcl-taini road, who died last week at the age of 54, after a long and painful illness', took place on Saturday at St. Peter's churchyard. The funeral was attended by gentle- men only, and the Revs. Joel J. Davies and J. Williams officiated. A presemtatibn m-eeting to Sapper Robert Preece, R. E., of Swansea road who recently came home from France, took place at St. Peter's Schoolroom on Tuesday, ,the 19tll ult., when the Rev. J. Williams presided. On Wednesday evening at Alltwen Chapel, the Rev. Ben Davies, Pajit- teg, lectured on "Barddoniaeth Wat- cyn Wyn," under the auspices of the Young People's Society. The Rev. W J. Rees presided, and Mr Davies' lec- ture, which was ably delivered, was thoroughly enjoyed. A lecture will be given shortly at Alltwen in aid of Mr Morgan Rees, when the Rev. J. J. Williams, Morris, ton, will speak on "Williams Panty- cel yn. A presentation meeting was held at St. Peter's Schoolroom on Tuesday night, when Corpl. James S-iimne-tt, S. W. B., Lance-Corpl. Roger Thomas, R.W.F., Gunner A. Davies, R.G.A, and ex-Gunner A. Thomas, R.G.A. were the guests of the evening. Mr. Ohas. G. Gilbertson presided, and the presentations were made by Mr Dd. Rees, supper!ed by .Mr W. A. Madge, Rev. Joel J. Davies. anid the chairm-nn. The programme irrluded solos by Miss Edith Thomas, Mr David Daniel, Mr Lucas M'oro-an. and Mr W. J. Mor- gan, violin solo, Mr M- Davies; piano, forte solo, Miss Edna Wood. Mr. E. Hopkin was the accompanist. Under the i-Lispioes of the Ministry of Pensions, in connectiom with the Pontardawe District War Pensions Committee, Mr Arthur D. Maiden, F.R.G.S., gave a. cinema lecture M the Pavilion, entitled, "Recalled to Life," or the training of disabled Sailors and Soldiers. The various training centre* at Brighton. Rne- hamnton, the Dia-mond Cutting and Polishing Classes, tho Polytechnics ,and Technical Schools. St. Dunstan's the Orthropaedic hospital, the visit cf the Kiner and Queen t,6 Golder's Green home of re: to very, were illustrated. The lecture was thoroughly enjoyed, and a large number of disabled sold- iers and sailors attended. A highly interesting lantern lecture was given at the Mission Hall on Wedne^dav evening, when Mr B. Lion?! ttolf. Board of Agriculture Inspector, lectured- on. "Wart Disease and Potato Swaying. "The leeture was most educative." Mr J. Ernest Leiris presided. v
