NEWENT. I SCHOOL MANAGERS.—The monthly meeting of the School Managers was held at Mr 0 T Price's offices on Tuesday, Canon W H Conner presiding. The School Attendance Officer's report for the month was as follows :-Pick letiasti Boys 90.1, do. girls 86 1, do. infants 695, Gorsley 87.2, Cliffords Mesne 94 total per cent. for the group .85.3. The visitors (Dr Campbell and Mr Crisp) gave their report, which was of a satisfactory mature. Miss Owen, assistant mistress in the girls' school, sent in her resignation, to take effect on March 31st, and also thanked the Managers for the testimonial "they gave her. GUARDIANS AND RURAL COUNCIL.—The fort- nightly meeting of the Guardians was held on Tuesday, Mr T H Hulls presiding. A large number of assessment appeals were heard. The Master reported the number in the house as 55, 4Ast Board day 57, as against 66 for the same period last year tramps relieved during the fortnight 150, as against 157 and 168 the two previous years. The Board acknowledged, with -thanks, the following gifts for the inmates: Tea, sugar, sweets, and tobacco, from Mrs Beechey tea, sugar, sweets and tobacco, from Mrs Conner papers and periodicals from Mrs Beechey, Miss Newbury, Miss Dyke, Mrs Snelling, Messrs W J Cook and Sons, Ex- press proprietors. Mrs W P Thackwell wrote thanking the Board for their vote of sympathy in her husband's illness. Mrs W S Hankins also wrote thanking the Board for their vote of condolence on the dsurh of her son. The In- spector presented his report, which included -various orders to house owners ftr improvements vunder the House Planning Act.
