PREPARING FOR FUTURE TRADE…
PREPARING FOR FUTURE TRADE COMPETITION. The effect on commerce due to the war will be world-wide. Each nation must exert itself to ensure that this will be minimised in its own particular case, aud the most effective methods will be by economy of manufacture and by vigorous propogandism to cul- tivate at once new sources of demand. We do not propose for the present to enlarge upon the former of these methods; that must and can wait, since it is different from the securing of new markets, which require now prolonged and patient spade- work." But it is well that in this matter of economy in manufacture, as in all business affairs, a long view should be taken. The future should not be mortgaged; conditions should not now be lightly created or be made irrevocable when normality returns, when the need for a strong elfort in commercial com- petition will become imperative. For the extension of our foreign clientele, action should be taken before there is need for increased demands. The seed must be planted, and the soil fertilised long before the fruit can be garnered. And thus it comes that even now, when appliances can only be used for ensuring the action essential to the obtainment of peace, Wp must make provision i for the utilisation of the same mechanisms when peace comes. This necessity is recognised on many hands. The num ber of pamphlets we receive estab- lishes the fact. The multipli- cation of organisations helps to the same conception. But we sre not quite as certain that the mediums proposed for meeting the case are always the most efficient. A persuasive speaker or writer, given such an easily- established cause for organisation, can get some measure of support; someone gets a good post, perhaps a good salary, and subscriptions make easy the publication of circulars and re- ports which are consoling to the members. Thel'ewaretoo many such organisations where dilet- tanteism, assumed or otherwise, appears to give a value to the work, but which, because of inex- perience and lack of forceful action, is worthless. The disad- vantage is that in such case remuneration cannot be pro- portional to the results achieved. The organisation is maintained often on promise of a future success.
I SOME REASONS
I SOME REASONS I WHY BARMOUTH PEOPLE SHOULD FOLLOW THIS VALUABLE ADVICE, Because the proof is in Barmouth you can easily investigate it. Not necessary to experiment. Profit by the experience-of Miss Jones. On December 19th, 1912, Miss Jones, of 3, Penbryn Terrace, near the Pres- byterian Church, Friog, Fairbourne, nesr Barmoutb, said:—"I was very much troubled at one time with back. ache and touches of rheumatism. I could scarcely sleep at nights, and was very restless. I expect my kidneys were affected by a cold I had caught. My head was painful, and often I felt depressed. "I was advised to try Do'an's back- ache kidney pills, and I must say these pills eased the pains splendidly. My back wss stronger, and I did not feel so tired after the day's work. I could sleep better, too. I think highly of Doan's backache kidney pills and am pleased to recom- mend them." (Signed) M. Jones. On March 29th, 1915-over two years later—Miss Jones said :—"I am very, well indeed now. I keep free from the trouble that Doan's pills cured me of, and they keep me in good health. I heartily recommend them to others. Doan's backache kidney pills relievo the kidneys and bladder like ordinary medicines relieve the bowels. They drive out the uric acid which is the great cause of backache, rheumatism and lumbago, and they release the accumu- lated water in cases of dropsy and retention. They are perfectly safe to use in all circumstances, and a certifi- cate of purity accompanies every box. Price 2/9 a box, 6 boxes 13/9, of all dealers, or from Foster-McCIellan Co. 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W. Don't ask for backache or kidney pills,—ask distinctly for Doan's backache kidney pills, the same as Miss Jones had.
I A PUPIL AT 97.
I A PUPIL AT 97. The most interesting figure at the celebrations being held at Llangollen in connection with the establishment of the Welsh Baptist cause in the town one hundred years ago is Mrs Tamar Parry, of Dee Mill Place. Mrs Parry is 97 .years of age, and ranks among the oldest, if she is not the oldest, Sunday School scholar in Wales. Surprisingly alert, both mentally and physically, despite her great age, she is not often absent from her place in Chapel.
