ILODGERS' LOG-BOOK.
I LODGERS' LOG-BOOK. I ALL GUESTS MUST SIGN. Each person who keeps a hotel or lodging-house, lets apartments, or receives paying guests or lodgers, must obtain from every person (whether British or foreign) staying in his house a signed statement on a set form, giving particulars as to his or her nationality. Where the guests or lodgers are aliens, a register giving certain further personal particulars must also be kept. The Order in Council to which reference is made came into operation last week, and applies to every part of the kingdom. Its obj ect is to secure a still closer surveillance of aliens residing in this country, and particularly to keep some record of the movements of any aliens who may be posing as British subjects. From enquiries made in Barmouth it is gathered that so far as the hotels and larger lodging-houses are concerned the new regulations are being proper- ly and loyally carried out, and that, apart from the extra clerical work envolved, no trouble is experienced in complying with them. Now and then it has happened that a British visitor at a hotel has expressed some slight surprise upon learning for the first time that he is required to place his signature on a form declaring that he is of British nationality, but on the whole the regulation has been readily and I cheerfully fulfilled. The numerous applications which have been made for in- formation at the various police stations show that the new order has already obtained. considerable j publicity, but it is, aone the less, apparent that a very large nnm- ber of lodging-house keepers under which term, according to the Home Office definition, is included 11 any person who for reward receives any other person to lodge with him or in his house") have not yet realized the new obligations which are placed upon them. As the penalty for non-compliance is a fine of ttOO or six months' imprisonment, all such persons should apply im- mediately at the nearest police station for directions as how to proceed. Specimens of the necessary forms and register may be seen at any of the police stations. The new Order, it is important to notp, supplemeuts but does not supersede existing regulations with regard to the registration of aliens. The alien will still have to register himself with the police in the ordinary way, and the hotel-keeper or lodging-house keeper will still have to report to the police the presence of an alien on his premises. The form, as well as the alien register kept in the house, will be opeti for the inspection of the police when required. Now that the holiday season is close upon us, the letting of apartments at the seaside and other holiday places will soon be briskly proceeding. There are many people who give up the whole or part of their houses for such purposes during the summer who let none of their rooms during any other part of the year. Such people do not regard themselves as lodging-house keepers in the ordinary way, but they will be wise to bear in mind that as soon as they have a lodger or paying-guest on their premises they will be obliged to comply with the terms of the Order, and will render themselves liable to a heavy penalty if they omit to do so.
BARMOUTH HAS ITS ANSWER
BARMOUTH HAS ITS ANSWER Barmouth has its answer now. There was a dauot once as to whether the cures, about which Barmouth residents spoke so heartily, were lasting cures Did the people stay well ? That was the great question. And here is the answer, cured to stay cured, given in the word of a Barmouth resident. Mr H. Roberts, who lives at the Glan- y-Llyn Temperance Hotel, near the Station, Barmouth, has spent thirty years or more on a merchant ship, being an officer for twenty years. He has sailed to all parts of the world, and was shipwrecked once off the coast of Ireland about twenty years ago in a gale, when he was lucky enough to escape in a lifeboat. On January 30t,h, 1909, Mr Roberts said Some time ago I was suffering from heavy, drag- ging pains in my back and a general feeling of lassitude and weariness. There were also other troubles which proved to me that my kidneys were not acting properly. After trying various medicine and finding nothing which seemed to do me any good I was induced.to take Doan's backache kidney pills. I am plessed to say that they did me mote good than anything I had previously used, and from that time to this I have never bad any serious sign of the complaint. I heartily recommend Doan's pills to any- one who is troubled as I was." (Signed) H Roberts. On March 29th, 1915 —over six years latei,Mi- Roberts said :—" Doan's pills cured me of kidney complaint over six years ago, and I am glad to say I have kept well since." As we grow older the kidneys grow weaker and less able to cope with their important work of filtering the blood and flushing out the poisonous uric acid, which is the cause of so much suffering, Doan's pills are an invaluable medicine for backache, rheumatism, grave), dropsy, stone and all urinary disorders. Price 2/9 a box, 6 boxes 13/9, of all dealers, or from Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W. Don't ask for backache or kidney pills,—ask distinctly for Doan's backache kidney pills, the same as Mr Roberts had.
