- -- -ALCOHOL MOTOR FUEL.
ALCOHOL MOTOR FUEL. Although the war has greatly interfered with the work of the Alcohol Motor Fuel Committee of the Imperial Motor Transport Council, it has been decided that that part of its labours connected with the collection of data should be pushed on, with a view to the Committee being better prepared later to take up the scientic in- vestigations, as soon as a return to normal conditions will permit. With this end in view the Com- mittee has now issued a series of schedules asking for information concerning 'I) the present and prospective demand for fuel for internal-oombustion engines; (2) the manufacture of industrial alcohol from raw material; and (3) the existing scources from which alcohol can be obtained. The first schedule calls for infor- mation concerning the present or future use of motor vehicles, agricultural tractors and ma- chines, stationary, marine, and railway motors. It embraces the factors likely to alfect the future use of motor vehicles, prices of fuel, present costs of available fuels, and the question of British versus foreign-built engines. The second schedule deals with raw materials, on which subject the Committee invites information on the present and possible future development of supply of sugars, molasses, beet, palm-sap, grapes, dates, apples, etc., cellulose, in- cluding saw dust, woodpulp, etc. On these points data are sought on the output in tons per annum, whether alcohol is obtainable as a main or by-product, value of land on which crops are raised, yield per acre, price of produce per ton, distance from distilleries, and so on. The third schedule, dealing with the manufacture of alcohol, seeks particulars of dis- tilleries, methods of distillation in use, type of stills, strength of alcohol produced, annual output, natural or other difficulties pre- venting production of cheap alcohol, &c. The Committee is anxious to hear from anyone in the possession of useful know- ledge on these and other cognate matters, primarily with reference to the development of the re- sources of, p and the use of alco- hol for industrial purposes in, the British Empire, but infor- mation relating to foreign count- ries will also be gladly received. Anyone interested is invited to communicate with the honorary secretary of the Committee, at its temporary office, now opened at 173, Fleet-street, E.C. We gather that anyone submitting information is invited to do so on the schedule forms which have been drawn up, and which may be obtained on application to the honorary secretary. Naturally, with so wide a subject, some preliminary automatic classification of this type will greatly assist matters
IWHEN LIFE WAS SIMPLER LIFE…
I WHEN LIFE WAS SIMPLER LIFE WAS LONGER. When the organs begin to weaken, whether early or late in life, the hard- working kidneys usually tire out first, and should have first consideration. Failing eyesight, stiff, achy joints, rheumatic pains, backache and dishes- sing urination are often due only to weak kidneys. At the first sign of weakness give the kidneys prompt attention. Drink water freely to flush the kidneys, and use Doan's Backache Kidney pills to strengthen them. Go back to the Simple Life, to the sensible habits of your boyhood days. Eat less meat, avoid over-work, excesses and worry, and take more outdoor exercises, rest and sleep. Everybody dreads kidney trouble, but this sensible treatment will keep the kidneys in condition, lengthen life, make it easier, and perhaps avert altogether the more serious kidney diseases. Barmouth people have recommended Doan's Backache Kidney Pills to their friends and neighbours for over 15 years. The good they do and the continual use of home testimonials inspire an ever in- creasing confidence in THIS SPECIAL KIDNEY MEDICINE.
