AN IDEAL HOLIDAY CENTRE
AN IDEAL HOLIDAY CENTRE Land of Mountains, Torrents, Castle and Song. [ fV e reproduce the following article from the Birmingham Edition of the Guild Maga- zine] It is doubtful whether in any part of the British Coast a stretch of a hundred miles could be found to present such charming variety as that on the western seaboard of beautiful Wales along the shores of Cardigan Bay. Making Barmouth our Holiday Centre for 1915, it is our purpose to briefly describe the principal beauty spots which are so easily reached from that delightful little watering place. A centre more conveniently situated it would be difficult to find. The town is partly built on the rocky slopes of a steep hill—a veritable Gibraltar and the Teutons would receive a warm reception if the hill were fortified, which it is not. No, the Barmouth resi- dents are a peace loving people they welcome with open arms the summer invasion, their only anxiety being to relieve visitors of the contents of well filled purses, by legitimate means of course, a fair quid pro quo being given in the shape of good food and residence, and incomparable mountain air and scenery. We can speak very confidently about Barmouth because it was our good fortune some time ago to spend a long residence in this charming neigbourhood. There is a good scrvice of coast trains north and south, enabling the visitor to reach many beauty spots by an early afternoon train I, without the necessity for leaving I after breakfast and going away for the whole Of the day. In the cost of the itinerary which follows these notes we have included one of the holiday contract tickets which are issued by tlie Cambrian Railways Com- pany. This ticket is one of the cheapest of its kind in the British Isles, enabling the visitor to travel along 50 miles of coast line for seven shillings per They are available between (l) Barmouth, Dolgelley, Machyn- llech and Aberystwyth, and (2 Barmouth,Dolgelley andPwllheli. The journey may be broKen at all intermediate stations. Guild mountain lovers will want to climb Cader Idris, which rises so majestically across the incomparable Estuary. A good way is via Arthog (rail), and walk from thence to the summit (7 miles). The scenery is magni- cent, and the view from Arthur's Seat on the summit some travel- lers consider even more extensive and romantic than that from Snowdon. But, prenez garde. Let the party be careful to keep together, with an experienced guide in front. This precaution is neces- sary as mist sometimes descends suddenly and travellers, unless they know the mountain well, may find themselves in an awk- ward position. A day at Aberystwyth and the wonderful falls at Devil's Bridge < is included in the itinerary. The next suggested half-day excursion is to Harlech Castle, the site of siege and warfare centuries ago. Of course the Guild will visit the lovely Torrent Walk. There are many rail and motor coach tours available from Barmouth. An- other delightful excursion is through the Pass of Aberglaslyn to Beddgelert village. Our space is more than filled. We venture to think we have written enough to induce our readers to begin to think about packing for their summer holiday at beautiful Barmouth safe from Zeppelins and Germanic attacks-in the Land of Moun- tains, Torrents, Castles and Song.
A SERIOUS TALK ON A SERIOUS…
A SERIOUS TALK ON A SERIOUS QUESTION. When getting over a cold, fever, or illness of any kind, be careful to guard your kidneys against a breakdown. Every day thousands are recovering from one disease or another, and it's while convalescing that great care is needed to avoid falling into the clutches of kidney trouble. The kidneys, when in health, are the hardest working organs in the body. 'No wonder that when the blood is loaded with uric acid poisons and the work of the kidneys is doubled, that they break down. Kidney weakness follows as naturally as night the day.. After influenza, pneumonia, fevers, and even ordinary colds watch fo kid- ney trouble, and don't neglect such clear signs as backache, headache, dizziness, nervous trouble, and that dull, tired feeling, no matter how unim- portant they appear to you. Your kidneys will need help for a while. There is nothing more soothing, nothing better than Doan s backache kidney pills. This medicine is for the kidneys and bladder only, and has no action on the bowels, With the temporary assistance of Doan's pills, care as to diet, more rest and sleep and exercise in the open air, you can soon get back to normal. Everyone reading this frank statement will understand why so many in Yar- mouth have confidence in Doan's back- ache kidney pills.
