Lecture.-On Friday evening last at the Park Road C.M. Schoolroom an excellent lecture was given by Llew t Meirion, Dolgellev, on" Owain Arran," which was greatly appreciated by the large audience. Sympathy. Much sympathy is extended to Mrs John Evans, 12, Porkington Terrace, on the death of her sister, which took place last Friday at Liverpool. During the last ten months Mrs Evans has lost three sisters. Sunday School. Miss Jennie Richards, Glanydon, has been appointed secretary of the Park Road C.M. Chapel Sunday School, owing to Second Lieutenant Lewis Williams, Ceylon House, the late secretary, having departed. ?. Fuiiffal.-The remains of the late Mr William Garnett, Llecbigleision, were laid to rest at Llanaber Churchyard on Friday last, the officiating ministers being the Revs. P. H. Lewis, Gwynoro Davies and E. Vaughan Humphreys. The duties of undertakers were carried out by Mr Richard Roberts, Ivy Housel The Snowdrop Band.—A meeting of the above was held at the Caersalem Schoolroom on Friday evening last, Miss M. Jones-Owen presiding. A hymn was given out by Miss Gwladys Pugh, and Miss Maggie Roberts fread a Peal m. The Rev, E, J. Parry gave an excellent I address on the Snowdrop." A vote of thanks to Mr Parry was proposed and seconded by Misses Nellie Jones aud Gwennie Williams. Fire.-leaterday morning (Wednes. day) the Fire brigade was called out to an outbreak of fire which had broke out at the summer residence of Mr Starley, Llanaber, but luckily the fire bad been extinguished before the arrival of the Brigade, who turned out smartly in a very short time. Much damage was done by the fire. Mothers' Union.-On the 12tb inst., the quarterly meeting of the Mothers Union was held at the Church Hall for the members and associates. The Rector read the prayers, and introduced Mrs Holland, Caerdeon, who is well known in the neighbourhood. She gave an excellent address on Home life and training the children in obedience." The address was much appreciated by those present, and all hoped Mrs Holland would soon speak to them again. There were forty-eight piesent Appointment.—We understand that Miss Winnie Moore, eldest daughter of Mrs Moore, Lion Hotel, has got an appointment at the Corwen branch of the London City and Midland Bank. Miss Moore entered upon her new duties on the 10th inst. Her sister, Miss Florrie Moore,"bas been engaged for some time at the Barmouth Post Office. Both young ladies were educated at Dr. Williams' School, Dolgelley, and the Intermediate School, Towyn. We congratulate them upon their appoint- ments, and wish them continued success in their new sphere of life. Red Cross.- Tbe usual weekly Red Cross meeting took place on Wednesday last, January 12th, at the Church Hall. A good number of garments were handed in. They were as follows:—15 pairs socks, 1 helmet, 1 shirt, 7 scarves, 2 pairs mittens, and 1 pyjama tie. The presents for the week were as follows Mrs Johnson, Abermaw Terrace, 1 pair socks Miss Ann Ellen Rees, 1 pyjama tie. We shall be very grateful if more ladies will volunteer to help us with the making up of materials and wool.- every little helps, and if they can only make up an occasional. garment it is most useful,and we are very glad indeed to welcome every possible offer of help of this description. The Art Picture House.—The Art Picture House continues to be well- patronized and the pictures shown are of a high order. To-night (Thursday) I 14th instalment of The Master Key." Episode 14.—Ruth and Dore awake early and rise before Smithers. Near'a road in the hills are Wilkerson and his men. Meanwhile, high up in the hills, the surviving High Priest has called to the hillmen to avenge the death of his brothers and to regain the idol from the white men. Dore and Ruth call on the American Consul for protection. Wilkerson and his party are lost in the hills and camp in a deserted hut. Dore hears of the whereabouts of the idol, and, disguised as an Oriental, he sets out to get it. Ruth remains at the Consulate. Meanwhile, Dore, riding into the bills, meets the British troopers. They join Dore and come aoross the hillmen. Dore and his party make for the hut. Wilkerson is deter- mined to prevent Dore obtaining the plan of the mine. As Dore sits at the table, Wilkerson signals his men, who pounce upon Dore. Oddfellows.—The first meeting ot fhe Aberystwyth and Dolgelley Amalga- mated District was held at the Owain Glyndwr Institute, Machynlleth, last Saturday. Barmouth was represented by Bro. J. Jones, P.P.G.M. (The Library), and Bro. William Ed. Jones, P.N.G., secretary of the Mawddach Lodge.- Twenty-five delegates from the various Lodgps attended, and the proceedings were presided over by P.P.G.M. Hugh Hughes, Aberystwyth.—Much of the time of the meeting was occupied in drafting new special district rules for the Gwalia District, by which name the amalgamated districts will hence- forth be known.—There were three applicants for the post of Corresponding Secretary, viz., Bro. J. E. Evans, Aber- ybtwyth Bro. Corbett Williams, Dol. and Bro. J. Lumley, Aberdovey, The post carries a remuneration of between £ 60 and R70. Voting was conducted by ballot, and Bro. J. E. Evans was elected. Bro. J. Howells from Gogerdden Lodge, was elected Grand Master for the cur- rent year, and Bro. Llew'Meirion, Dol- gelley, Deputy G.M.—Bro. J. Jones, The Library, was elected one of the four District Trustees, and Bro. C. J. Dempsey one of the four members of Management Committee. Bro. C. J. Dempsey's name was also sent up to the Commissioners as a candidate for a seat on the Merionethshire Insurance Com- mittee.—A report on the finances of the Dolgelley District was submitted by Bro. J Jones, The Library, who also set forth the claim of Barmouth as a suitable place whore the next District Meeting should be held. A resolution was eventually carried unanimously that the next District Meeting be held at Barmouth on Saturday, July 15th. Barmouth Library.—The quarterly meeting of the above Institution was held on Wednesday, 12th inst., Dr. fJ. Pughe Jones presiding. There were also present: Mr J. R. Willliams, Mr Owen Parry, Mr Rees Jones, Mr Morris G. Roberts, Mr Humphrey Jones, L. C. & M. Bank (treasurer); and Mr J. Jones (secretary). -After confirming the minutes of the last Executive Com- mittee,the report of the Book Committee was submitted.—It was reported that a large number of valuable books had been presented during the quarter by Miss Winhjam, Brighton; Mr O. Ll. Williams and Mr Morris G. Roberts. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the donors.—Report of the Finance Com- mittee for the quarter ending [Dec. 31st was read and adopted.—Instructions were given to carry out the suggestion of the Finance Committee to invest £50 in theExchequer Bond,re-payable in five years.—The Secretary submitted his report for the quarter. This was very favourable in every respect, showing a substantial increase in some items as compared with the corresponding quarter of last year.' The building had suffered some damage during the great storm that raged at Christmas time, all of which bad been promptly repaired. I mm Merioneth Assizes. The Merioneth Winter Assizes were held on Friday and Saturday, before the Honourable Sir Charles Montague Lush, one of His Majesty's Judges. His Lord- ship arrived on Friday afternoon, and was met at the station in state by the High Sheriff (Dr. R. T. Jones, Harlecb), Mr William George, of Messrs. Lloyd George & George (Under-Sheriff); the Rev. Richard Evans, Harlech (Sheriff's Chaplain); Mr Richard Jones (Chief Constable); and Mr R. Llewelyn Owen (Under-Sheriff's Clerk.) Twelve police officers, in charge of Inspector Ben Evans, formed an escort, and the procession proceeded to the Judge's lodgings. On Saturday morning His Lordship attended Divine Service in Church, and the usually large crowd witnessed the procession. This being over, the Commission of ARsize was opened at the County Hall. Sir Osmond Williams was chairman of the Grand Jury, which included Alderman T. Martin Williams, Mr T. W. Piggott, Mr Mr Morris Evans, Mr Cadwaladr Roberts, Mr E. D. Jones, M.A., and Mr Rhys Jones. Charging the Grand Jury, His Lord- ship referred to the marked diminution of crime in the North Wales counties, especially in Merioneth during recent years. ASSAULT. Hugh Jones, 21 years, labourer, Llan- uwchllyn, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a girl thirteen years of age. Mr T. B. Morris appeared for the prosecution, and a sentence of six months imprisonment was imposed. The Court being over, the High Sheriff entertained close upon a hundred guests to lunch at the Royal Ship Hotel.
