Barmouth Licensing Sessions. The annual Brewster Sessions for the Ardudwy-is-Artro Division were held on Friday last at the Police Station, Barmouth, before W. J. Wright, Esq. (chairman); Thos. W. Piggott, Cadwa!adr Roberts, Morris Evans and J. Pryce Jones, Esqrs. ANNUAL REPORT. Inspector Ben Evans reported that the number of bouses fully licensed was eleven: one licersed to sell beer, wine, porter, etc., for consumption on or off the premises and one for beer, wines and spirits, for consumption off the premises. Ten houses bold seven-day licenses and three six-day licences. Five bouses were tied to Brewers or owners. The following licences were granted for entertainment:—one stage play, one music and dancing, two cine- matograph, and one billiard license for the Pavilion, Barmouth, and one for the Talydon Hotel, Barmouth. On May 1st, the license of the Lion Hotel, Barmouth, was transferred from the late Mr R. G. Moore to his wife, Winnie Moore. On August 20th a temporary transfer of the license of the Last Inn, Barmouth, was granted from John Foulkes to George Onions, and on October 15th a full transfer was granted. On September 24th an Order was made by the Bench (under the Temporary Restrictions Act, 1914) for the sale and consumption of intoxicating liquors in all licensing premises in the division to be suspended and closed each night at 9 o'clock from October 1st until the termination of the war. The application of the proprietors of Talydon Hotel for structural alterations 'was granted on January 21st. The conduct of the licensed houses bad been satisfactory. Six persons were proceeded against for drunkenness, as compared with seven in the preceeding year, three of whom were charged with being drunk and disorderly, and three for single drunken- ness—four males and one female who was convicted on two occasions during the year. The Chairman said that the report was very satisfactory, and he was glad to observe there was a decrease in drunkenness. Great credit was due to licensees for the way they had conducted their business during the past year, and he hoped they would continue to ho;d the same discipline. The Bench renewed all the licences.

j SCOUTS CORNER. I was glad to notice the active part taken by the troop of Boy Scouts in the Temperance meeting the other evening. In all probability, the sound advice I given by "Pienydd" in his own humourous and inimitable manner will stick to some of the boys at least for the rest of their lives. Now is the proper time to sow the seeds of sobriety in the minds of the boys, while the mind is yet tender, receptive and undefiled by the habit that has proved the ruination of so many. It would be a step in the right direction if the members of the troop were to take some kind of a mild pledge not to touch alcoholic drinks of any kind. Scouts always like to know what the greatest of all scouts—Lieut-Gen. Sir Baden-Powell—has to say on matters that concern them. This is what be says:—"Remember that drink never yet cured a single trouble; it only makes troubles grow worse and worse the more you go on with it. A man who is drunken is generally a coward. And no true scout is a coward. Men who drink are fools, because once they teke to drink no employer will trust them, and they soon become unemployed and easily get ill, and finally come to a miserable end. There is nothing manly in drinking. Once a man gives way to drink it ruins his health, his career and his happiness. There is only one cure for this disease, and that is-never to get it." Boys! think over what your hero-Sir R. Baden-Powell—says on the question of drink. "Good turns" are being multiplied on all hands, and no wonder that the Chairman of the Temperance meeting said the other night that all prejudice against the movement has died out. Among the good deedb reported during the last "eek I may mention several little acts of kindness, such as running errands without rewards, &c. I happened to be looking through the window in the street one day when I noticed a touching little incident performed by Griffith Griffiths. A certain person who was very weak was struggling along under a burden that was evidently much too heavy for him. I saw the boy going up to him and take the burden on his own back. Oo making enquiries afterwards I learnt that the little scout carried it all the way home, and said it was his good turn for that day. This proved that the boy possessed the true instinct of a scotit--he was observant, and he was prepared on the instant to render assistance. Well-done, Griffith it was only a small thing to do, but it was enough to prove that your bead and heart are right! you are a credit to vour troop. Make up your mind my lad that you will never do a mean, dirty action that will bring discredit upon your patrol or upon yourself.
