11 EMPIRE DAY.. Boy Scouts Athletic Sports. I The Barmouth Boy Scouts !oyaUy celebrated Empire Day by holding AtJiletic Sports pn the Recreation Ground. The arrangements were in the bands of the Committee. The fol- lowing Acted as officials on the field :— Starters, Lieutenant Kenneth Bui!, Mr B. W. Jones; judges, Lieutenant B. Ptggott, Lieutenant A. L. Ogden, Mr Ernest Lloyd, Mr Harry Kirk; footba!! mutch referee, Mr John R. Humphreys, The following were the prize-winners Bag!e playing competition. Three competed. First prize (given by Mrs Howins) Robert Charles Crabbe. 100 yards flat race. let, Robert Henry WiHiams; 2od, Eddie Foulkes. (Prizes given by Mr JnekTncker). Three-legged race. (First prize given by Mr J&ck Tiieker). 1st, Owen Ellis Roberts and Sidney Price. Walking match. (First prize given by Mr Owen Parry). 1st, Owen Eilis Roberts. Pbyaica! drill competition. Two patrols entered. First prize of 5s. (given by Sir Edmnnd Buckley) was awarded to the patroi under Mr J. Jones, The Library. Obstacle race. 1st, Griffith Grimth 2nd, Robert H.Wmjams. (Prizesgiven by Mr Evan R. Davies, Gianywerydd. Ambulance race. 1st, Thomas Meirion Grimtb 2nd, Eddie Foulkes and Wm. Robinson. (Prizes given by Mrs Holland). Leap frog trace. 1st, Sidney Price and Frank Ingram; 2nd, Robert Henry WH- liams and Gwi!ym Roberts. (Prices I given by a Friend). Football match. (Prize of Ss. given by Sir Edmand Buckiey). Winning team captamed by Thornae Meirioo Grimth. A prize oSered by MtM AUicgton Haghes, Wrexbam, for the best eesay on the Scoots* outing to DyS'ryn was divided between Jack Loxton and Gwiiym Roberts, both of whom bad sent in excellent essays. A prize of Ss offered to the best worker in the troop was awarded to Jack Loxton. There was a good attendance on the fte!d. The boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and are looking forward for another day's sports before the end of the summer. Mr Grimtbe, of the Mineral Water Works, provided & case of mineral waters free ofobarge. He said he was pleased to do this as some of the Boy Scouts were always anxious to do a good turn" whenever they bad the opportunity. The Bontddu Troop of Boy Scouts joined in the sports, after which, they and the Barmouth Troop were enter- tained to tea at Min-y-mor by Mr and Mrs Hoyd. The prizes were presented to the winning competitors by Mrs 0. W. Morris at the evening concert.
