THE SAILORS INSTITUTE!—This tittle shelter for saiIorsisofteri forgotten by those who might arrange entertain- ments or collections at boarding houses and other places during the summer season. It is true that many have from I time to time subscribed towards, its j maintenance, but of late years not much has been done except by tbe few, and at the beginning of this year it was a question whether or not this little institution should be closed. Last week the genial manageress of Orielton Hall (Miss Fletcher) arranged with the mem- bers of the Cooperative Holidays Association who are staying at the Hail to organise an entertainment amongst themselves for the benefit of the Sailors Institute, with the result that the sum of R2 10s. Od. was gratefully received by the treasurer. We hope that this will stimulate others to make ooHecttonR in aid of a place which has proved so bene- ficial i. tbe past. He has been a. profeAsionl boxer, is well-known in Australia as "Nedgo," Ecceatric Comedian," is yards high, and wants to go back to the front again. "They won't kill me," be says, H they just can't." As the afternoon was delightfully warm and sunny, a., very largo number of people, of whom a good portion were visitors, availed themselves of the opportunity^ h^virj^ tesi on %e fine terrace, overhanging the Estuary, and of exploring the garden, the most notable features of which are its fine situation on the slopes above the river, from which a magnificent) view can be had of the Estuary, and also the charm. ing combination of nature and art in the character of the garden itself, w4.ere the, purple and the white heather grows in plenty side by side with the choic<p$ of cultivated flowers. All the arrange- ments worked smoothly, and the guests were loud in their praises of the excel- lent tea and entertainments provided, The Royal Magnets, with their usual generous interest in all local matters, gave their services free of charge to the committee, who realize that the success of the afternoon is largely due to them and who cannot sufficiently thank them for their kindness. That the audience appreciated their entertainment was sufficiently proved by the fact that the suggestion for a voluntary collection met with a ready and most hearty response. In another part of the grounds, known as the Italian Garden, Mr David Roberts, the well-known harpist, to whom also the committee; owes a greats debt of gratitude for his voluntary services, gave selections on the bari), to the delight of the listeners, the English section of whom were especially charmed by the novelty of the entertainment and the picturesqueness of its setting —It is gratifying to report that the fete proved a complete financial successs, and the proceeds will considerably help the cause which like most other causes has suffered considerably owing to the war.

BARMOUTH READERS-MAKE A II…
BARMOUTH READERS-MAKE A II NOTE. It is a good plan to make a note of anything worth remembering A mes- sage a week has appeared in the Bar- mouth paper for many years past. You have probably read hundreds. If you have not yet profited by them, make a careful note of the following. Its very earnestness must appeal to you On January 8rd, 1909, Mrs E, Morris, of Riviere, Abermaw Terrace, opposite the Harbour, Barmoutb, said I have bepn troubling, on and off, with pains in my back for about four years; I have hardly known how to drag myself about. Many a time I have bad to sit down in the middle of my work to take a rest. It was torture getting up straight after stooping a bit. My feet and ankles swelled, and there was a puffiness under the eyes. I suffered dreadfully with headaches, too, and felt tired and drowsy. The kidney excretions were dis- ordered and caused distress when obtain- ing relief. HI began to take Doan's Backache Kidney Pills, and before I bad got to the end of the box I felt ever so much better. As I went on with the medicine my back grew easier, and I could get about my work freely and in comfort. I 5 no# feei brighter and becfter; a different person in fact. I shall always recom- mend Doan's pills. (Signed) "E. Morris." Over six years later, Mrs Morris said Do, n's piUs are splendid, for they caret! me and I have kept free from the trouble these six years since." Often those in the greatest danger from kidney complaint do not know kindeys are diseased, and so the trouble is neglected until it reaches a serious stage. Cure your kiddsys while you can by commencing with Doan's Backache Kidney Pills at once if you have any such clear signs of kidney disorder as gravel, sediment, pains in the loins and sides, urinary trouble, rheumatism and dizziness.
