The officials of the Trades and Labour Council possess a keen eye to business, and know where and when to grasp the opportunity of a free adver- tisement. Personally, I would dare leave alone the ingenious sarcasm dis- played and relieve the tension of the followers of the Trades and Labour Council. Their knowledge of journalism is rather a narrow passage to convey or expound their views. However, I must compliment them upon their effort, and hope that another chance will pass their way to enlighten the readers of the quality and tactfulness of their organisation. I. regret that this week I am in no mood for a thorough thrashing out of the grievance—if it Play be regarded as one. Furthermore, had we the space of the ocean, I may personally invite a contribution. When will the Council compel the owners of our private streets to rectify the existing deplorable state of the thoroughfares? There are so many pre- liminary stages that, by the time the goal is within reach, the conditions pre- vailing are entirely forgotten. The winter months are upon us, and naturally things look their worst. Is there no hope for those compelled to trudge along Talbot Road? Often this parti- cular street is one mass of water. Little children and women, regardless of its presence, have to risk even their health. Who is responsible? This week, the management at the i Palace presents one of the finest shows travelling. Every artiste is a star, and to while away the unpleasant moments of life a visit is sure to cure. From the very moment the performance begins there is merriment. The come- dian, assisted by Tich," draws down the house. Patrons are roaring with laughter. The programme includes the Six Scottish Highlanders, who, in addi- tion to their numerous ttffns, provide several selections on the bagpipes. The lady violinist is a rare treat, and on Monday last the applause that greeted her playing was beyond comparison. The singing is of the highest quality. I can safely recommend the perform- ance to the people of Ammanford, and feel confident that they will be pleased with the production. Cheer-O." On Wednesday evening next, the Bettws Orchestral Society is holding a grand orchestral concert, under the able conductorship of Mr. Geo. Thomas, L.L.C.M. The artistes include the great soprano, Madame Laura Evans- Williams, of the London and Provin- cial Concerts; basso, Mr. Morlais Evans (National winner); elocutionist, the renowned Mr. T. Gibbon Davies. The khair is to be taken by that distinguished musician, Colonel Lloyd Harries, Llan- gadock. The Home Secretary gives notice that Summer Time will cease and normal time will be restored at 3 a.m. (Summer Time) in the morning of Monday next, the 29th September. All railway clocks and clocks in Post Offices and Government establishments will be put back one hour, and the Government re- quests the public to put back the time of all clocks and watches by one hour during the night of Sunday-Monday, 28th-29th September. Employers are particularly recommended to warn all their workers in advance of the change of time.
Garnant Presentation.
Garnant Presentation. At Stepney Hall, on, September 17th, a function of much local interest took place, when Mr. John Morgan, L.L.C.M., one of the most popular sons of the Valley, was pre- sented by the inhabitants with a substantial cheque in recognition of services rendered by him during the war as accompanist in over 150 reception concerts to our brave soldiers and sailors at Garnant. And hot only to the soldiers and sailors, but he has given his valu- able services gratis at scores of different gatherings and deserving causes during the last 30 years. Stepney Hall proved to be far too small to accommodate half the number of Mr. Morgan's friends who had come together to shew their respect and appreciation. The chair was taken by the Rev. T. R. Jones, Calfaria, who, as usual, ably performed his duties, and in his opening remarks summed le 1 11 "Ig up Mr. Morgan' s character in two words— willingness and geniality." Space for- bids us to dwell in detail upon the notable characteristics of the numerous artistes that contributed to the programme, but suffice it to say that they were all in tip-top form, and it would be no exaggeration to state that we had one of the finest miscellaneous concerts that has ever been held in this locality.
