RHYMNEY. ANNIVERSARY.-On Sunday last the anniversary services were held in connection with the English Wes- leyan Sunday-school. In the morn- ing the Rev. John Bosher (pastor) 1 delivered an address. An interesting [ programme of solos, recitations, and dialogues was gone through in the afternoon and evening. Miss Madge Thomas presided at the barmoni um. COMPETITIVE MEETI.NGS.-In eon- nection with the annual Sunday School treats, on Monday last, a number of interesting competitive meetings were held in the evening. At Penuel, the Rev. G. Griffiths presided, and acted as conductor, and the adjudicators were: Music, Mr James Evans-: literary, Mr David Summers," at Zioa, Chapel, the. Rev. Rv E. Peregri I B.D., was the presides, whilst tlie several competitions/ #ere adjudged by Mr W. S. Gri (Jerustlera) music Mr John Evans, (Princetown) recitations, etc., and Mr Sam Thomas, drawing. The eisteddfod at Ebene- zer Chapel, Twyncarno, was, as usual, characterised by the unusually large number of competitions. The Rev. R. W. Davies, M.A., presided. The adjudicators were Music, Mr John T. Jones, A.C. recitatations, etc., Mr John H. Griffith accompanist, Miss Olwen Davies, (Coronation -ter- race). At Mount Carmel, the adjudi- cators were Rev. F. Surman, Tredegar, recitations and Mrs Sur- man, and Mr Henry Davies, music accompanist, Miss Annie R. Jones. At Brynbyfryd Chapel, Mr D. B. Richards, one of the deacons, presided. The terrible times through which we have passed, and are under- going at the present," has done one great thing, that is the bringing together of people uf every station in life high and low." Before this great event, in our history, the people of England were kept apart according to their class. Now, everything is changed, rich and poor alike join in one great cause, that is the destroying for ever of tyranny and militarism. In the ranks to-day, side by side is the peer and miner, doing the same work, eating the same rations, and sharing all the perils of war cheer- fally and nobly. The aristocrat, used to all the refinement and luxury of civil life, is content to share with the man of humble birth, everything in order to bring about a great and victorious end- ing to bhis terrible war. I have known men. w hoe income runs into five or six figures, yet, they are subject to the same discipline as myself. Its rather amus- ing at times to see an Oxford or Cam- bridge man meekly obeying the com- mands of a chap far his inferior as far as education and station is concerned. Between the officers and the rank and file of the British Army, there exists that comradeship and understanding that is going to win through Unity and Strength," andlit is the joining together of the classes and masses, that has placed us, where we are to-day on the winning side." A great many of our officers, before taking a commission served in the ranks, raising themselves by hard work and ability to the positions they hold to-day. This war has been the cause of much suffering and distress. But, undoubt- edly, it has done a great deal of good in uniting the people, and when peace comes as it will, with a great victory for us, this unity will be the means of a happier and brighter England.—Signed I L.-Corpl. I ABERBARGOED. Benjamin Fieldhouse (45), labourer of Aberbargoed, and his wife were summoned at New Tredegar on Fri- day, at the instance of the N.S.P.C.C. for neglecting their child. The ma- tron of the Rhymney Hospital said they had to use turpentine to remove the ingrained dirt from the child, and Dr. Redwood said the child was very emaciated through disease and ne. glect. At the time the child was re- moved to the Hospital another was I lying dead in the house. The defend- ants were bound over to be of good behaviour for three months.
