5UNDAY SCHOOLS' TURN OUT AT RHYMNEY. Rhymney presented quite a holiday appearance on Monday, the occasion being the annual demonstration and treats under the auspices of the San- day Schools of the Nonconformist Churches. In common with other towns, owing to the Food Controller's restrictions, when the desii-ability of holding the event was considered about eix weeks ago, some of the churches expressed the opiaion that owing to the abnormal conditions prevailing, the question of the "treats" should be abandoned, but the majority of the schools carried to observe the day as in previous years, bencei the programme was carried out on Mon- day in its entirety. Favoured with fine weather, the festival proved a big success, the turn-out being as usual, of a very imposing character and of considerable dimensions. Abont mid- day, the scholars, with their teachers and superintendents assembled at their respective churches, and pro- ceeded through the town. The schools from the upper district marched aa far as the miniature park in Lawn- terrace, in the following order:— j Mount Carmtil (English Congrega- tional), Rev. F. Surman, Tredegar, Mr Edgar Brown, superintendent, and Mr Henry Davies, choirmaster; Goa. hen (Welsh Congregational), Rev. Rhys Jenkins, pastor, Mr J. Davies, superintendent, and Mr James Lewis, A.C., conductor Tabernacle (Welsh Wesleyan), Rev. J. R. Davies, resident minister, Mr William Davies, Mr Robert Ellis, superintandept and Mr W. G. Brown, conductor; Penuel (Welsh Baptist) Rev. George Griffiths, Mr Evan John, superintendent, and Messrs Evan Jones and W. J. Jones, A.C., conductors; Ebenezer (Calvin- istic Methodist), Rev. R. W. Davies, M.A Mr John Davies (Rose Cottage,, j superintendent, and Mr Davy Joyes, A.C., conductor; Zion (Welsh Con- gregational) Rev. R. E. Peregrine, B.D., Mr Abel E. Jones, superintend- ent-, and Messrs John T. Jones and Daniel Owen, conductors. These schools were joined in High Sreet by the Lower section consisting of the English Wesleyan, Rev. John Bosher, Miaa Madge Thomas, conductress; Victoria-road, Presbyterian, Rev. W. H. Cooper, Mr Daniel Thomas, Mr Richard Rees, Conductor; Beulah (English Baptist), Rev, T. M. Rich- arde, Mr D. T. Williams, A.C., super- intendect ard choir conductor; Bryn- hyfryd (Calvinistic Methodist) Mr Sydney Thomas, superintendent, and j Mr Tom Jones, conductor; Jerusalem (Welsh Baptist), Rev. T. E. Williams, Messrs W. S. Griffiths and W. J. Narbed, superintendents, and Mr W. j S. Griffiths, conductor; Moriab (Welah Congregational), Mr Joseph Price, superintendent, and Mr Tom Davies, conductor. En route, each of the choirs rendered popular marches and other appropriate selections, in some instances the compositions of loail musicians, and the singing was quite inspiring. Although no official count was taken, it is computed that the scholars, teachers, and others in the turn out, numbered nearly 3,000, which, having regard to the fact that several hundreds of the members of the churches are now serving iu the Army and Navy, is highly gratifying. The duties of marshals were ably dis- charged by Messsrs J. R. Voyle (Jeru- salem) and D. T. Evans (Zion Chapel) Subsequently, the scholars of the several schools returned to their school rooms, where tea was provided, and a most enjoyable time spent. -:4M-
