D.C.M. HERO KILLED tx Acnox. —We understand that Mr. and Mrs. H[enry A. Lloyd, Tre York. have received intimation from the author- ities of the death in action of their son, Trooper Jim Lloyd. He was associated with the Dragoon Guards and had seen much service; on the Western Pront. Lloyd was killed by a shell exploding whilst holding a front line trench on the I 2nd inst. A number of his coin- i rades were injured. His command- ing ofncer speaks of him as an cxcellent. cheerful, and waning soldier, and a great favourite. ii7, had spent two years in France and was home a-'few weeks ago wearing" the ribbon of the D.C.M. MoRiAH. -As briefly announced in our last issue, in connection with the annual tea a programme of sports was arranged on the moun tain. where a mirthful attitude was noticeable that is rarely, if ever. seen except in the purest of surroundings, and everyone, from the oldest to the youngest, joined whole-heartedly in making the various competitions an unqualified success. Among those who worked, strenuously in the usual offices connected with this form of amusement were:— Councillor H. M. Thomas. Messrs. J. W. Price, M.-E., Joseph Price, Jenkin Howells) Charles Hdwards, E. Edwards, D.' Thomas. and others. After the distribution oL prizes by Councillor Thomas, a few games terminated a most enjoyable even- ing, the young going home feeling that the -pedestal of their future health had been well and truly laid. and the older section that they had. secured a new lease ou life. ? BRIT.HDI* YOUNG MAN'S the district coroner, held an inquest at the G.o.rge. ¡nn. Brithdir, on Thursday, touching the death of \Vm. Mark Harris, 10. of Herbert-street, who was killed at the Bargoed House Co'âl Pit on Saturday Mr. McBride repÍ'ented" the' Hoifte'Office;M' Albert Thomas the Miners' Feder- ation, and Mr. T. B. Fisher, M.H., the Powell Dufiryn Company. Rosetta Harris, the mother, stated deceased was 19 years of age. He worked with three brothers and an uncle. Septimus Harris, a.brother, said he worked with the deceased on a pillar. At about.2 p.m.—nnishing time—on Saturday his brother was on his knees pulling at a. butt of coal when a stone fell from the roof on to his head. The height of the roof was only 2ft. oin. Thomas John Hârri. another brother; gave similar evidence. Coal. had been worked for about ten inches. There was a post under this. The post had discharged and the stone which fell had pinned the deceased to'the ground. The stone was of a V" shape and was about 2ft. 6in. at the widest point. There were two slants in it which were invisible before the fait. There -,vas also a smooth above it. He had tried the stone just before the accident, and it sounded quite strong. Immediately before the fall there was a pounce. H. G.
