THE RHYMNEY VALLEY I MINERS.
THE RHYMNEY VALLEY I MINERS. NEW PRICE LISTS. I The meeting of the Bhymney Valley District of the South Wales Miners' Feder- ation was held at Bargoed on Saturday, Mr Mark English, New Trodegar (vice- president) in the chair. A supplied re- port saya that a vote of sympathy was passed with Mr John Hawkins (the preai. dent) in his illness. Tke officials present included Mr Edmund Jones, treasurer; Mr Albert Thomas, J.P., aub-ageat aud secre- bary; and Mr Walter Lewis J.P.. (agent). In his report the Agent dealt with the desire of workmen of the Elliot's and New Tredegar Collieries to have price lists re- vised, and in two cases for the institution of new lists. Mr N. Phillips, the Com- pany's agent, had shown considerable re- luctance to meet them in the matter, and had finally told them that it was no good meeting Mm as he was not going to make any concessions. In face of the t'\Ct he (Mr Lewis) hud no desire to meet him. As the matter had been enbmitted to the Con dilation Board and the employers had re-f used to appoint an arbitrator he had nothing further to do but to advise the jfforkmeB to seek permission to tender notices. He had no hesitation in saying that the revision of some of the old price lists was a very essential part of what was I called local representation, and that no in- dustrial peaee could be established in Wales without acting on the advice of the Inquiry Committee set up by the State who recommended that such old price lists should be revised —In regard to demobil- isation the Agent reported as far as they knew arrangements were being made for this purpose. They believed that the effective way to provide employment for miners returning from the, Army was for the employers to either open ap new work or re-open work that had been more or less closed during the war. The Executive Council agreed on this point and intended approachieg the employers through the Conciliation Board on the matter.—The Agent reported that Non-Unionism was rife at the Peagam Colliery, and the ar- rangement known as the Sir George Atsk- with Scheme has been found inadequate and had broken down. The woikmen therefore asked permission to tender notices on the following morning.—The district meeting however, decided to post- pone the notices for a week to give the agents time to approach the General Manager on the matter.
