RHYMNEY. I ANOTHER D.CM.—On Monday last at the Parlth Hall, Sergeant David Morgaa (South Wales Borderers), son of M r and Mrs Jno. Morgan, Goshen street, who has been awarded the D.C.M., for heroie service, was the recipent of a number of gifts, includ- ing a gold watch. The proceeding* were of an entbuaiMtio character. w w < CONCERT.—The Bhymney Ladies' Choir, under the emoient direction of Miss Mary Rioharda, U.C. W., gave a auoceasful concert at The Empire, New Tredegar, on Ffiday evening, in aid of the New Tredegar War Belief Fund. The choriaters gave mfaaterly renderings of the National Eistedctfod test pieces and other choruses, which delighted a crowded audience. < < < ATTENTION !—Lovers of the drama will be provided with a treat at the Empire, New Tredegar, next week, full particulars will be found in another column. This theatre is faat becoming popular, and a favourite centre of- amusement. Under the capable direction of Mr A. J. Hurd, some of the foremost companies have been booked, full particulars of which will be duly announced in tbit paper. OBiTUART.—We mueh regret to refer to the death of another old inhabitant of Rhymney, in the person of Mrs. Mary Jones, relict of William Jones, Brynhyfryd Chapel House, and mother of Miss Polly Jonea, the MtpeeM borid-nbtegs of ta. Lower ( p I Infants' School, who passed awav on Sunday last at Penybryn," Beulah- street. The late Mrs Jones, who had attained the ripe age of 80 years. was* of & retiring disposition, and greatly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She bad been for a lengthy period a devo- ted member of Brynhyfryd CM. Chapel, whore her familiar ngure and wise oounael will be missed. The funeral took place on Thursday aher. noon, the interment being at the CemetMy. There was a large and representative attendance which teati. ned to the high esteem in which the departed waa held Much sympathy is expressed with the two daughters r in their sore trial. < < 0 COUNTY COUNCIL ELBCTION.—A1. ready much interest is being aroused locally in the forthcoming County Council Election, nxed for Saturday March 8th. The question was dis- cussed at length at a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council held on Tuesday night, Mr Edmund Evans presiding,—Coun. D. James Cm. phasisod the fact that as the County Council had control of the most vital matters, such as education, public health and housing, it was important that as representing the masses they should seise the opportunity of hav- ing a larger representation upon the council.—Mr John Morgan, Abor- tysswg, expressed a similar view and criticised the action of the County Council in handing over the School wf Mines at Crumlin to the Colliery Managers, which institution, he said. now received the Government graats. —In the discussion which followed, Messrs T. E. Thomas, A. Conway, Gwilym Davies, Coon. D T. Wil- liams, Mr S. L. Davies, and others took part.—Finally, it was resolved that Messrs Ben Probert, D.O., and W. C. Williams. B.C.. be nominated to contest the local seats in the Labour interest. m
