Over 1,170 articles were sent in, includ- ing 215 sheets. 61 quilts, 13 blankets, 27' ward table cloths. The matron was very pleased that tho size and quality of the goods sent in were go closely in accordance with the list of requirements. Owing to the appeal for large articles many members sent money instead of small gifts, which partly accounts for ie-wor articles being sent in than in former years. rhe subscriptions amount to J-UM, show- ing an increase of on 1914. Through the kindness and energy of the chairman, advertisements were obtained, which en- ablecl the annual reports to be again printed almost free of cost. Distribution of Goods. Last autumn the Executive Committee authorised that the following goods should be distributed:- To the Red Cross Hospital, Sketty.-6 dozen mufflers, 50 pillow cases, 2 sheets, 5 quilts, 2 blankets, 14 shirts, 10 pyjamas, It) pants, 6 socks, 8 dressing gowns. During the year prayer desks have been given to the large wards, for daily use. and a bedside oxygen cylinder-stand, to Llewellyn Ward. Thrr>3 beautiful palls for men, women aad children have been provided for the mortuary. It is interesting to know that although ths hospital was unable to placo beds at the disposal of the military authorities (owing to the large number of civil patients waiting for admission) it has nevertheless received a number of very serious cases of sick and wounded ooldiera and sailors in the wards during the year. and has taken in and operated on a "large number of ooldi-ers aud recruits, thus enabling them to serve their King and country. The Committee is extremely gratified. with the year's work. Sincere thanks are due to Mr. David Roberts for kindly auditing the acoounts and to the manv ladies for the valuable work and uptiring energy which they have given on behalf of the Guild. In the year 1913, at the annual meeting of vice-presidents, it was decided that any money iu hand after all the requirements of the Linen Guild had beep satisfied,; ehoald be put to a fund to build aj inprtuary and chapel, as with the grow-, ing needs of the hospital, the present ac- c-oramodation is quite inadequate. |TREASURER'S STATEMENT. I
TREASURER'S STATEMENT. Mrs. Richard Jenkins (hon. treasurer). in her financial report, stated that the total receipts was « £ 8-12 108.. and the ex-. I penditure Ji95 2., leaving a balance of .£747 88. There was a balance of .£208 on ¿.he deposit account. Lady Dynevor, in moving the adoption of the reports, said they were most satis- factory, but she hoped they were not going to rest" on their laurels. The needs of the hospital were constantly growing, and it must be remembered that the institution opened its doors to a very wide area. The JEon. Elaine Jenkins seconded. The reports, she said, showed the invaluable work which was being done by the Guild. They could not boo highly praise the workers, especially Mrs. Aeron Thomas, organiser and originator of the scheme in this part who, with the Matron (Mi Scovell) had worked untiringly not onlv in this county, but other counties. The Guild had saved the hospital over £ 1,000 a year, and it has generously helped the Red Cro:rs hospitals in the district. The resolution was carried. The Scope of the Guild. I In an address on the progress and future of the Guild, Mrs. Aeron Thomas said the Guild, which was started in May, HH2, had experienced a very successful year. It was very gratifying when thf*, considered the great demand", me on their vice-presidents and members. They had 30 branches working. Most of them had done well, but some stood out promi- nently. Accompanied by the Matron (Miss Scovell), she had visited many districts during the year. They had re-organi sed a. number of branches, organised a new branch at Cwm- gorse, and one more in Swansea in con- nection with the Unitarian Church. Swan- sea, which had 28 branchs. had done very well. Britonferry had done very little for them. which was a pity considering that the ho-pit;11 recoivftd a very large number of patients from the, Neath Valley. The New Fund. I Mrs. Thomas referr-ed to the fund for building a mortuary and chapel. The members of the Guild, she said, were I deeply interesie,J in the scheme, and the outlying districts were very koon" that the building shoull be proceeded with. It was the intention of the Guild to erect a building suitable not only for the require- ments of the hospital to-day, but for the wants of the future as far as they could see them. The Guild had co-onted three of the members of the Building Committee of the Board on fothe building committee of the Guild to give them the benefit of their co-operation and advice. During the four years the Guild had been working, Mrs. Thomas ooneluded, they had eaved the hospital el,000 a year. The Matron paid a warm tribute to the I good work of the Guild, and said that, thanks to its members, the supply of linen through the hospital was most satisfactory I Election of Officers. The Executive Committee was re-elected, on the motion of Mrs. Howells, seconded by Mrs. Nelson Jones. Mrs. Lancaser, in proposing the re-elec- tion of the officers, paid a special tribute to the work accomplished by Mre. Aeron Thomas (chairman of the Executive), Mrs. Richard Jenkins (hon. treasurer), Mis Scovell and Miss Aercn Thomas (hon sec- retaries), and Miss Protheroe. Mre. Geo. Strick seconded, a.nd the reso- lution was carried. Sir Garrod Thomas' Speech. I Sir Garrcd I-homas, cluiiraiaji of the Royal Gwent Hospital, Mon., gave an in- | teresting and informative address on the great strides made by medical science dur- ing the last century, and dwelt in turn on the discovery of anesthesia, and the sub- jects of sanitation and bacteriology, anti- septics, and the Rontgen or X Rays. Anaesthesia, he said, had bean a boon to us in the hour of our grettesl7 need. Speak- ing as an old pupil of Lord Lister, he s.ud that gentleman box! ave.d more lives than all the generals of tc-day had killed. The work being d-onf) by the Linen Guild, he concluded, was worthy of any woman up to tho highest in the land, and they were helping forward the most blesaed work the heart or mind of man had ever con- ceived. Board's Appreciation. I Aid. Evan Evans (chairman of the Has-! pital Board of Management) expressed the warm thanks of the Board to the Guild for the work of the year. He read a letter from the Board, s.'gned by Mr. W. D. Hughes (secretary), in which it was stated that, having regard to the extraordinary times and the large number of appeals made to the beneficent public, the total results of the Guild's work during the year far exceeded the mopt optimistic ex- pectation?. This great assistance, com- bined with the Guild's generous offer of a mortuary and chapel, was very deeply ap- preciated by the Board. Without tbe help of tho Guild the hospital would have been several thousands of pounds moro in debt than it was to-day. He could personally lestifv to the good work done by the Guild.
