V.C.'s BIG HAUL.
V.C.'s BIG HAUL. Private Todger Jones, the Runcorn Victoria Cross hero, returned to his home on Thursday afternoon amid scenes of great enthusiasm. He was carried shoulder high part of the way to his home, but in Devonshire-square, the principal jtfiorough- fare, progress was impossible, and finally Jones took to his heels down a. side-stroet to his home and arrived at his house al- most exhausted In an interview Jones told in simple language the story of his capture of over 100 prisoners. "I went into the German trenches because I thought I might as well be killed fighting as digging myself in," he remarked. I got rid of Uiree at the entrance to a dug-out with my old maga- zine. There was one who spoke good Eng- lish. and I told him if the lot did not sur- render our lads would be over in thou- sands and cut them to pieces. He pave them the message and they came out of the dug-out one by one One tried to escape, but I brought him down with one through the head, and the rest put up their hands with the usual, r Merry, kamerad.' As they c-tood there I could not help laughing. T said to myself. (Good ford, what can I do with this lot?* I guessed some of our lads would be over soon, and svne enon-rh they came, and we -ounded tbjejiiup to the British lines."

IBLINDED SOLDIERS.
I BLINDED SOLDIERS. I, Big Extensions at St. I- Dunstan's. The heavy casualty lists of the last few months have yielded their proportion of men who have lost their sight, and in spite of the large temporary buildings which have been added to St. Dlln6tall!, bringing the numher of men who can be accommodated there up to 200, it hac. been found that further room is needed. This has been secured through the generous action of the committee of Regent's Park College, who have agreed to vacate for the duration of the war their very large and suitable premises, situated next to St. Dunstan's, on the outer circle I of the park. Arrangements have been made to carry on the work of the college in the meantime elsewhere, and in these arrangements the principal of the college, tho Rev. Dr. Gould, and his staff. though put to great personal incon- venience, have acquiesced most cheer- f I Y. The college building is conveniently planned in every respect, and with com- paratively trifling additions in the way of bath and lavatory accommodation will provide the room needed for ahout 2HO more blinded soldiers and sailors. The grounds, though not so large as thoee of St. Dunstan's, cover some nine acres, and will afford a much needed extension for tuition in poultry farming. Another most desirable annexe to St. Dunstan's has also been placed at the disposal of Sir Arthur Pearson and his co-workers. It is a spacious and admir- ably fitted house, with three acres of ?gardeii', situated close to Blackheath Common, which will be used for the tem- I porary accommodation of men who, while not requiring a long sojourn at the St. Dunstan's seaside annexes at Brighton or Torquay, need a quiet restful time before setting themselves seriously to the task of learning. It is unfortunately the case that the gallant fellows who have lost their sight at the front recently have suffered more severe injuries than was the case in the earlier days of the war. The extended use of bombs, grenades, and high-explo- sives of many kinds is the reason for this The greater severity of the injuries ?r,Dce.ived necesaitatee in many cases a period of rest and recuperation, for which the establishment at Blackbeatli will provide every facility. The need for financial assistance to enable the men who have lost their right to be properly cared for is more urgent than ever lie to re. Will those who sym- pathise with them, and who approve of the efforts which are being made to render their lives happy and useful, send as much as they can afford to the Treasurer, St. Dunstan's Hostel, Regent's I Park. London, N.W.
