tit RUN OVEfi BY TRUCK. I% i Deaths at Port Tabot and Aberavon Mr. Lewis Al. Thomas (district coro- ner) has been notified of three deaths in Port Talbot and Aberavon. Thomas Smith (64), Celluloid Cottages, Port Talbot, died on Wednesday night, ;having been run over by a truck at the Crown Patent Fuel Works. Wm. Henry Randall, of J3. Olive-street, JAberavon, aged 27, was found dead in a pill on Sandnctds marshes on Thurs- ?'?ay evening by Thomas Hyatt. The O?e- ceased, who was subject to fits, left home 'at 4.30 on Wednesday afternoon, and it is helieved that he fell in the pill while in a fit. Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, wife of the care- taker of Baldwins' Offices, Port Talbot, who lives on the premises, died suddenly on Thursday morning. She was working up to eight o'clock on Wednesday night, but was taken ill, and became worse early in the morning.

CARMARTHEN LIGHTING. I It was reported to te Carmarthen Town Council that a conference between a re- presentative of the I-loci.4 Government, Board and representatives of the Council and the Carmarthen Electric Light Co.. with a VifW to arriving at a settlement of the dispute with regard to the reduc- tion of public lighting, had failed. The company offered an allowance of £50 a year on account of current saved if they were allowed to increase the price to the private consumer by one penny per unit. This offer was not accepted. The Surveyor (Mr. P. J. Finglah) eaid the number of public lamps specified in ) the contract was 232; that number had now been reduced to 120. Ho held that according- to the contract the Council were entitled to a reduction of a sum equal to the actual saving to the com- pany by such reduction* The Council decided apply for a re- bate on the lines raised by the surveyor.

SWANSEA. A small plot of land at the back of Eaton-crescent is now under the plough. Swansea has evidently awakened to tha necessity of utilising all its spare ground. An enjoyable entertainment was pro- vided by the Unitarian Choir at the Swansea Garrison Hospital OIL Wednes- day evening, the programme having been arranged by Mr. D. J. Squires. The choir rendered some glees, and Miss Eva Beynon was responsible for a couple of excellent recitations. The following ren- dered solos: Mesdames Pearson, Evans, and Poacack, Missey F. Beynon, Lily Harris, Gladys Griffiths, Alice Warner, and Beattie Prater, and Messrs. D. J. Squires and T. Owen. Miss Lilian Stratton was the accompanist.

He was a member of tho silver band. Two more benefit performances of Change will be given shortly. Grove Park has been all taken up in allotments. Very few applications com- paratively speaking, have been made for Gorseinon, Grovesend and l'ontlliw dis- tricts, and prospective buyers of seed potatoes are also few in number.

T. W. Ward, Ltd., for a new I building of steel construction at their yard, Giants Grave, to bo used as a fit- ting shop. The plan was in order and ap- proved. :1:1'. Clarke reported that 136 plots had already been pegged out and 121, had been ■ taken up. The annual meeting of the Neath and I: District War Hospital Committee was held at the Gwyn Hall, on Tlmrsday, un- der the presidency of Mr. Levi James. Mr. Tom Davies, the secretary, sub- mitted a wry satisfactory balance-sheet. The total receipts amounted to E948 5s., with an expenditure of t369 igis. id. Replying to Mr. W. Bowen Davies, the Chairman said the total cost of the Christmas festivities was 1132 Is. a,,d. That included C73 7s. 9d. for food, fruit, and mineral w ate re, and S62 llid. for presents. Mr. I. H. Ellis (Port Talbot) said it worked out at 4s. 9:1. per head for the whole day. and considering the great treat the patients had the committee must have exercied the greatest economy. (Hear, hear.) Presenting the report of the Families Visiting Committee, the Chairman com- menfed upon it6 favourable financial position, ading that the result was due to the generosity of the residents oi Xeatli and Melincrythan in providing hos- pitality free of charge. During the year 90 relatives from away had visited (patients at'the hospital, and only in 10 cases had a charge been made on the funds. (Applawse). Reference to the excellent work Mrs. George Trick had accomplished in, meet- ing the visitors and finding accommoda- tion wa-s made in a letter from Mrs. E. Gibbins. and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded her.
