ST. DAVID'S.. I
ST. DAVID'S.. The remarkable escape from Germany of I'te. Bertram Arnold, oi St. David's-, has been suitably recognised by the resi- dents of the cathed ral city, when an en- tertainment waa given, at which the re- tnrned warrior was all honoured guest, whilst a presentation is to be made to him later Qn. For two years t'te. Arnold was a prisoner, and he made three attempts to escape. The first two were unsuccessful, but on the third occasion, after suffering great hardships, his effort was crowned with success. The town clerk of Pembroke has re- ceived a reply from the Premier thank- ing- the Council for offerng him the free- dom of the borough, and expressing his regret that pressure of work makes it ini- possible to visit the locality for some months. lie, however, states that if the invitation is repeated in the spring he will be very glad to consider it.

In this thrilling- and excising Russian love story, Michael llor } tcu, the author. has taken eWTY adv.&ntago of aJl possibilities. Success follows upon success at the Ely- sium. and next week t here will oe seen an- other budget Rood things-the last word in fiirouom. The striking success of the "Mystery Ship" serial in which are fea- tured Ben Wilson. Neva Gerber. and Kings- ley Benedict, will enter upon a distinctly new and absorbing phrase, in which Hetty is hidden in a chest nearly full of water, when the mystery man appears and rescues it. The subsequent adventures of the chest with its human freight forms the subject of an entrancing self-contained drama in itself. The" ldeal" picture-play The Scarlet Car." is a vigorous love and mys- terv drama in the parts revolving roun-1 a bank clerk's deficit of several thousands or pounds and his love for a girl The action is tender. romantic, and forceful, and spella instant success. Another of the big pic- tures is the Men of the Desert," which is a powerful tale of the Western deserts in five reels. The story is built upon a feud with intense dramatic situations. There an several Triangle comedies of the first water. Splendid programmes will be shown at the Castle Cinema during the coming week. The chief attraction for Monday: Tuesday, and Wednesday is a Bluebird photo-play jnave t acts, entitled "1 he Car of Chance.' This play is full of action, and features the popular Frankly n Farnum. Other pictures ( include "A Service of Love." an O'Henry story; "The Bridge of Fancy." an Essanay drama, featuring the clever child actress. iJary McAllietei"; Betty's Predicament." an entertaining drama: l'H fix it," and I-amily Flivver." two very amuting: comedies. The programme tor Thursday, Friday, and Saturday is of more than ordin- < arv merit. The .celebrated screen actress will appear in Magda." an adaptation from the famous play of the same title. Produced on sumptuous lines, with magni- ficent photography. Magda" is a beauti- ful work of Prt. nn(i has an unusual appeal for it tells of—life. W. S. The picture derives* an added force from the fact that the chief actress, Evelyn TI?w has hergelf p:1Mf'd J through the fiery furnace of temptation and sorrow. The acting is. a revelation of strength and sincerity. Several scenes in tin? picture clutch at the heart strings, and thero is hardly an audience in the country bnt wili be deeply moved Dy the story.
