BIG CONCERT AT GLAIS. I un tne occasion ot one ot the most success- ful sacred concerts held i\} the district for a long time there waa a very h: rge attendance at Capel Seion, Glais. The object of the concert was to raise rands for < he provision of special Christmas gilts for ti: members of the chapel who are with II. M. Forces, j aiul, thanks to the indefatigable work of the small committee, headed hy the Rev. D. Roberts, pastor, it is expected that the pro- ceeds will amount to a substantial sum. The programme was contributed to by such accomplished and talented axtistes as Mdme. j Arni-e George (Hafod), Miss Owen Jeffrey (-Bi-itop Ferry), Miss Lillian Edwards (Swausea),. Mr. John Stephens '(Lonlas). Mr. E. S. Evans (Swansea), Miss T. E. Summer- fcays (Clvdach), and Mdme. M. Richards (HeoI-Las), and each evoked the Y)plause their performances demanded. At the con- c!u?ion of the concert the artistes were j 1 crrtily thanked for their kindness- and splendid cervices. Councillor Aneurvn i Rees presided: The accompanist was ilrs. J. Swansea Mother's Sad Trials. I Pte. F. L. Miller, Machine Gun Corps, son of Mrs. Miller, of 10, Llangyfelach- street, London, has been admitted to hospi- tal, suffering with trench fever. He has- previously had shell-shock, fever, and been wounded, and, in all, this is his fifth time in hospital. His brother, Pte. Wm. Miller, 6th Welsh, has been killed, and there is an- ,i d t h ere -15 ai-i other, Pte. George Miller, in the Grenadier Guards, who has so been wounded.

One of Three Brothers. Official news has been received at Pontar- dawe of the death in action of Trivato Daniel George John, of the Manchester Regiment. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. ] David John Cefncelfi Farm, and was one of three brothers on active sex-vice.-Oflacial news is also to hand that Private Ben Davies, South Wales Borderers, has been killed in action in France. A PROSPEROUS PENSION FUND. At the eleventh annual meeting of the Bon rnville Workmen's Pension Fund, which was recently held, it v.-as announced that the accumulated funds exceed £ 250,000, after writing: down over £ 32X00 for the depreciation of investments. There are over 3,000 members in the fund. whose contribu- tions in' the year amounted to over X13,000, Cadbury Bros., TJ.d.. paying an equal sum as in former years. In presenting their quin- Quennial report the ac-ttia,rieg--Mesgi-s. R. M. Moore and Vyyyall Marr—announced tJtat despite the depreciation of inveistment-3, 1U- creased income, tax charges, nnd the np- heaval occasioned by the war, they found a sufficient sirplus to increase the rate of existing and future pensions bv 10 per cent. At the commencement of this fund. eleven years ago, Messrs. Cadburv Bros. gave a special donation of £ 60,000, which was subse- quently increased by a further £ 13,000. These sums have proved sufficient to make good the contributions for the period of back service before the commencement of the fund. They have recently sriven a further donation of £ 10,000 for the special relief of war victims who are under pension age, and their dependents. From this latter gift pay- ments are now being made to widows of men killed in the war and to members who have been disabled. The expenses in connection with the Pension Fund represent less than U per cent. of the amount received in sub- scriptions. The actuaries. in their report, say: Tbe fund is in a. thoroughly secure and sound financial position "-a comforting assurance for the hiembers. =.

FORTY-TWO YEARS' SERVICE. Imprassivs Military Funeral at Swansea. The 1,ate Armourer-Sergeant David Mat- thews, of the old 3rd Glamorgan Volunteers and 6th Welsh, was given a most impressive funeral on Tuesday afternoon, his remains being borne-011 a gun carriage to the family grave at Danvgraig Cemetery, where a firing party and buglers attended. The Rev. I Canon Watkins-Jonep. Gf, Christ Church, officiated. The principal mourners ,vere Mrs. David Matthews (mother), Mr. and Mrs. D. Matthew?, Skettv (son and daugh- ter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. W. Matthews, Air. and Mrs. Ked Mattliews (brother aid sister- in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Evans (brother-in-law and sister), Mesdames A. Bolt, A. Black- more. Collins (Cardiff), G. Evans (sisters), Drummer D. J. Bolt (grandson), Mr. J. Bolt (son-in-law). Mr?. W. Matthews (daughtr- I in-law) and many other rela.tivt>¡'Rearers I were Sergeant-Maj or Cowley (3rd Gi?morgaa Volunteers), and four old'members of the 6th Welsh home from Franco on furlough, viz., Sergeants Bass, Jones, Lewis. Corporal Coates, and a sergeant from the Shropshires. In the large concourse at the graveside were deceased's old comiades. Major Thomas, Colour-Sergeants Neck. Clarke, Turtie. Chal- lacoir/be, A. A. Covrley, and many others. A large number or beautiful floral tributes were sent. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. Webster, undertaker, Swansea. Deceased died after a few days' illness at his residence 50, Vin- I cent-street, Swansea, in hM sirty-second year. Deceased had I put in 42 years' faith- ful service between the old 3rd Glamorgan Volunteers and 6th Welsh, and retired from the tatter, with- out pension, twelve months ago, when he acted as park- keeper at Brynmil!. I AWARD PUT INTO FORCE AT I SWANSEA. i The Swansea Co-Operative employes' strike -embracing 120 people at nine s.hops- terminated on Tuesday night., when a mass meeting of members of the local. Co-Opera- tive Society decided to put the recent award in force. The shop:, were opened as usual on Wednesday morning. The trouble has arisen over the National Conciliation Board's award, which adopts a scale of wages for a 48 hours week. Swan- sea is one of 3B Co-Operative Societies bound by the agreement, and it was due to the Delay in Putting the Aivard in Farce I that the Swansea employes came out lasw Saturday morning. There are over 4,000 members belonging to the Swansea Society, and of these a good proportion attended the meeting at the Albert Halt when the position of each side was explained by Coun. D. Williams (the chairman of the society) for the society and Mr. Knill for the employes. At the outset there was some Objection to Councillor Williams presiding, and an independent chairman was selected from the meeting in Mr. J. W. Bowen (Postmen's Federation). It was explained from the society's view point that while they admitted being par- ties to the award, the committee bad not felt justified in putting the award into force owing to the different interpretations that could be placed upon certain points, without nrst consulting the general body of mem- bers. The, upshot of the meeting, which was confined to the members, was that at was agreed to put the Award in Force at Once I (there were only two or three objectors to this course), and the opinion was expressed that the employes had acted irregularly and unfairly n coming out, and that they should I have submitted their grievances to the mem bers first. The award is retrospective from last June, and it will, we understand, entail between I £ 400 and the Official Report.
