I KIDWELLY. Tho celebration of the jubilee of the Rev. lVm. Castellan Jenkins a6 paetor of Capel Sul Independent Church. Kidwelly, fook place on Sunday and Monday. On Monday afternoon and evening meetings, presentations wero made to the veteran minister (who is 87 years of age. and has been preaching for the last lit years) of a purse of money, some X17. from Tabor, Llansant, a church he has ministered to since its opening, and a handsome case containing Treasury notes to the value of over £ 100 from the congregation of Capel Sul and friends in the town and district. The death took place on Tuesday morn- ing. rather suddenly, at Quay House, Kidwelly, of Mrs. Mary Richards, relict of the late Mr. John Richards, of that place, aged 70 years. Deceased bad four sops who have served in this war, the youngest of whom is still serving. Captain David Brynmor Anthony, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, second eon of Mr. and Mra. J. G. Anthony, of Kidlly, has just been awarded the Military Cross for gallantry and great devotion to duty on the Western front. He is one of four brothers ail serving their King and coun- try. 1.Ir. Daniej Johns, I').Sc.. agricultural organiser, delivered an address at the Town llall. Kidwelly, on the great need of food production, and explained the Government scheme, under which 400 ad- dittional acres are ordered to be ploughed in the borough. The Government were prepared to render all possible help in the loan of tra.cto s, teams and plough- men and also in the siipi-lying<)f manures and seed. Farmers were present and several questions were asked. Mr. John Thomas, Velindre, managing director of the Kidwelly Tinpiate Works, an ex- firmor, presided.

John now. aged about 30, Berllan-ter- race, Llandovery, has disappeared from [ home since Saturday He was last seen on S.ituivday evening on the Dclauhirion- road, and later a cap and coat Aentifird hji those worn by him were found near a deep pool in the vicinity, and there were impressions on the bank of the river as j if someone had been sitting there. The River Towy at the spot was dragged on Sunday and Monday, but without result.

MORRISTON. I Lieut. W. A. Edwards, son of JL*. W. H. Edwards. Dutfryn Tin and Ste-d Works, Morriston, has died of wounds in Pales- tine. The <"ad information reached his l f.ends on Tuesday morning, and added pathos being found in the fact I that his wife, who is a daughter of Mr. H. L. Sails, J.P., re- ceived a letter from him by the same poot. Lieut. W. A. Edwards was 115 years old. He had been educated at Harrow and I Camhri<!gc. and before the war was en- gaged at th? Duffryn Worl?. He was well-known as a cricketer for a n(' Glamorganshire, his position being that of wicket-keeper. In 11115 lie married a daughter of Mr. R. L. Sails, J.P., but there are no children. At phildelphia Schoolroom, on Thurs- day evening, a concert was held "in aid of the Soldiers' and Stilors' Fund. Ace was a professional golfer and groundsman for the Langland Bay Golf Links. He was 33, and was a son of Mr. and Mrs John Ace, of Gower-place, Mumbles. The funeral took place on Thursday at, Oystermonth Cemetery of the late Mr. ,7as. Harris Madeir House, CMtleton. Mmubics. Mr. Harris, who was an octogenarian, wae on" of the oldest rca'deuts and Oddfellows iu the district, .having joined the Oyeter- mcuth Castle I?odgc in 1859. De Cover ley Veale presiding, a communication was read from the Mumbles Council requesting a conference with that body with a view to reviving the interest in the Association and the* advertising of the district as a summer and winter health resort. She was conveyed to St. Thomas Hospital, where her wounds were dressed. She was not detained. As a result of the recent flower show and dance at Pontardawe, the sum of £ 51 10s. 9d., which amount has been forwarded to the local auxiliary hospital. The death has occurred at Uplands, Pontardawe, of Mrs. Ellen Jane Maries, wife of Mr. Wm. 5Iarles, forapan at Messrs. Gilbertson's Works, Pontardawe. Deceased was 4G years of age, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barnett Webb, High-street, Pontardawe. She leaves two children. Mr. W. Lloyd. R.F.A., who recently wa-s awarded the Military Medal on the battlefield, has been visiting his home. GREAT NAVAL WRITER. Few people are aware that "Bartimeus," I who is one of the literary discoveries of I the war, is a Pontardawe boy, being the only eon of Mrs. Ccsti Ricci, who is the daughter of Mr. L. G. Lewis, Brynheulog, Pontardawe. Lieut. Ricci has written ecveral brilliant books on naval matters, his last effort being The Long Trick," J9,900 copies of which were told during the first week. Lieut. Ricci is at present at the Admiralty, and in addition to being staff paymaster, he is also secretary to Admiral Everett, the latter, by the way. being secretary and naval adviser to Sir Eric Gcddes. He was born in London 30 years ago. His father, who is deceased, was the eon of Baron de Costi Ricei, of the Diplo- matic Service. Ho served on the Iron Duke on the staff of the Commander-in- Chief Grand Fleet during the present I war, and "'11; in that ship when ehe took part in the Battle of Jutland.* MILITARY MEDALIST. SWANSEA. Lieut. R. D. MacDonald, only son of the late Mr. Duncan and Mrs. E. MacDonald, formerly of 21 Russell-street, Swanitea, now of 12, Linden-road, Bristol, has been killed in action in France. Lieut. MacDonald was 22 years of age. Pte. Thomas Hewitt, of Windmill-ter- race, St. Thomas, Swansea, has been in- valided home from France with dysentery, and is at present in hospital in London. Before joining up Pte. Hewitt was em- ployed under the Swansea Harbour Trust. The funeral of the late Mr. Hector Ll Rees, only eon of Mr. Hector Rees, for- merly of the Bonymaen Hotel, took place or. The bench said they were convinced it was a mishap, but they were bound to convict, and a fine of 20s. was imposed. His numerous friends will be grieved to learn of the death, which took place at j his residence, 74, Cromwell-street, Swan- sea, of Mr. Harry Samuel Jenkins, mem- ber of the grocery firm of 51essrs. News has been received of the death in France, on the 27th of September, of Lce.-cpl. G. T. A. (Trevor) Benson, aged 37. second son of Mr. Thomas Benson, High-street, Swansea. It appears that Lce.-cpl. Benson was killed by an enemy aeroplano bomb dropping near him. De- ceased, who had been out in German East and West Africa for about 13 years, came across to this country, and was in Swan- tea for a few days prior to voing to France last March. A well-known all-round athlete, deceased had played for Neath, Mountain Ash, Swansea Seconds, Maesteg, etc., and hac earned about £300 in ath- letic prizes. In addition to being a good Hugby wing threequarter and sprinter, Cpl. Benson won many prizes at hurdling and swimming. He also played water polo. The deceased was educated at the Swansea Grammar School. GREEK'S SUGAR DEAL. Before the Swansea bench on Monday, Leonidas Leontaris, a Greek, was sum- moned for selling or dealing in sugar by retail at Rutland-place, Swansea, without a certificate granted by the Food Control Committee. Mr. Rupert Lewis prosecuted. Defendant said he did not know a licence was necessary. The bench again imposed a nominal fine of it)s., saying that in this case the defence of ignorance was perhaps justifi- able. ESTATE OF 51R. J. LOVAT OWEN.
