I Members of Taibach and Port Talbot i Co-operative Society have presented their I I general manager (Mr. John Quayle) with a handsome piano in recognition of ten years' valuable services. Mrs. Quayle re- ceived a silver coffee service. AFAN VALLEY MINERi. I At the monthly meeting of the Alan Valley miners held at Port Talbot on Saturday. Mr. Wm. Jenkins, J.P. (agent) reported upon the Monmouthshire stop- page, and the amount of levy required to assist those men would be 3s. per mem- ber. It would be for each lodge to decide for or against a levy. Reporting upon the quotas required for the Army for March and April. he said that from in- 1 formation received from the Minister of National Service the numbers muA be completed forthwith for each colliery of grade 1 men. In bis report the agent deprecated some stoppages for a day in the district in which the men need the machinery of the organisation in an unconstitutional manner. -However, he had cause to com- plain that some employers were holding out on minor technicalities, particularly in this time of iwtional stress. A work- man had been dismissed at Cynon Col- liery for, it was alleged, a very trivial matter. Mr. JenkiM added that he had nia(lq every possible appeal to the com- pany to get this man reinstated, but bad failed. It was decided unanimously that permission be given to the men at Cynon Colliery to tender notices on Tuesday un- less the man was reinstated.
