WEEK'S WAR STORY
WEEK'S WAR STORY A Quiet Chapter of Minor incidents. There is rio great outstanding feature to mark the War Story of the Week, but in- clients from all fronts are more or less favourable to the course oi the Allied V-"Armfes. We had oil Monday a* brilliant V Italian success reported iu the re-taking 't.(tf Monte Val Bella; minor British suc- in France; the blov.-ing up ot ivus- "sian. Dreadnoughts by Russian sailors to N prevent the vessels going back to Sevas- topol, with the irascibility ot being here- atter used by the Germans; .and the French, in guarding the road to Paris,- succeeding in the capture oi (ioi) prisonei s. On Tuesday ive were told of an enemy attack near Albert, in which one ol our ?Li h ic h oiie el o,, r trenches was entered,'but in the counter- attack the Germans were repulsed with lc;:3es, .A brief chapter came through, also, sts to di soon tent in Austria, due to the reduction of the breed rations arid the ihjev. s thai lOO.L'OO people there were out on strike. 0 MORE HUN INHUMANITY. Tragic and inhuman. was the tale of llun inhumanity which also came to band $)n Tuesday of the sinking of the hospital ship Llandovery Ca«tl«, and the loss of about 230 lives, tho horror oi the details of the atrocity told by the very few sur- vivors, and the fruitless search for others who were missing with the boats which they had entered, before the ship sank in ten minutes. On the other hand, Germans in their own homeland are having a taste of war- fare, for JJritvsh air raids, into munition centos, the bombing of towns, aud IBie bringing down, at the same time, by our airmen, of no fewer than -'2 enemy aero- planes in one day, indicates the direction in T;hich air supremacy is decidedly set- tins in. And the Americans not only have come, ?tt are coming, into the war, M i <li- cated by a Washington conuuunic:Xion received here on Wednesday, stating: — President Wilson has issued a state- me-nt announcing that' lie has received ;"tcers from Mr. Baker, Secretary of War, i "porting that over one million American soldiers have sailed for France. k The first. ship carrying military person- nel sailed on May Sth. 1917. The Italians are still fighting, aud m ;k- Jnjp more prisoners of tiie. It was hoped that a fretflenient would have been reached before the expiration of the head teachers' no- tices, and it had been expected that fol- lowing a decision to ref er vthe matters in dispute to arbitration, the assistant teachers would have resumed their duties • un Monday last, but owing to a difficulty having arisen in arriving at an agree- -.1ell, i on the terms of reference, they did not do 4o. This difucuity still remains. Foreseeing the eventuality of having to ••lose the schools if the head teachers down tools « lso, the managers of some ..f the schools involved decided to fix the summer holidays as from Friday evening. The Carmarthenshire County Council and the Teachers concerned have agreed in principle to refer the matters in dis- pute to arbitration. Up to the present no intimation has been received D," to the decision of the Authority, although on be- half of the teachers it was agreed to, re- sume duties on the terms of submission being signed.
