Local and other Mews. LITTLE HAVE!< TABERNACLE ClIAI'EL.—Ou Thursday, the 12th iust., the Harvest Thanksgiving service was held. In spite of the unfavourable weather there was a largo congregation. The Rev. 0. Jacobs preached a very impressive sermon from Prov. xxiv :!0- :H. The collection was in aid of the Pembrokeshire and Haverfordwest Infirmary. EXECUTION ON A RUSSIAN MAN-OF-WAR.— For some twelve days past a Russian corvette has been anchored oil Gravesend. The vessel put to sea ou Tues- day last, and it has since come out that when just outside the British territorial sea limits one of the crew was hanged at the yard-arm. The man is said to have struck a quartermaster. METEOROLOGICAL REGISTER.—Ta'ketl at St. Ann's Head for the week ending 1 a.m. ICth October; highest barometer reading reduced to 32 F. and to mean sea level 30'28 on the 10th; lowest 20') on the 12th: maximum temperature in the shade .58 on the 12th; minimum 3.5 on the 1.5th amount of rainfall 0'20 inches hours of bright sunshine 11'2; prevailing winds, very variable, now set in strong breezes from S.E. sea rather rough. RnosMARKET. The Harvest Thanks- giving service of the Congrcgationat Church of the above place was held on Thursday, October 12th, when Rev. Jenkyn James, Middle Hill and Hook, preached a very suitable sermon to a good congregation in the evening. The Chapel was excellently and tastefully decorated for the occasion by the friends of the place. A collection was made for the County Infirmary. The articles used in the decorations were sold for the same worthy object. TiER's Cposs CiiAPEL. The Harvest Thanksgiving Services of the above place were held on Wednesday, October ] 1th..Prayer meeting in the morn- ing at 10.:30, and preaching service in the evening when Rev Jenkyn James, Hook, omciated most acceptably. The chapel was beautifuity and tastefully decorated for the occasion by the young ladies of the congregation. A collection was made in behalf of the Pembrokeshire and Haverfordwest Innrmary. H[LL PARK SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. —The anniversary in connection with the Sunday School was held on Sunday last. In the morning the Rev J. H. Boyd, of Waterford, officiated, giving an account of the Irisli Mission, which was very encour<)gi:)g. lu the afternoon and evening sermons were preached by the Rev David Oliver Edwards to very largo congregations. The singing was excellent under the able leadership of Mr Isaiah Reynolds. The whole anniversary was most edifying and enjoyable, the sermons creating a profound impression on the large gatherings. 13URTON. TlIE TRANSVAAL WAR. The Rev. A. L. H;u':)'ison on Sunday evening last prior to his sermon addressed a few words to his congregation upon the war in the Transvaal. He spoke with much solem- nity. He said that he firmly believed that the British had entered upon a just war, by which our country hoped to deliver fellow-country men from oppression. He asked his hearers to pray every day with him that God would aid the sick and suffering. After the Benediction the congregation, at the instance of Mr Harrison, sang kneeling the hymn, 0, God of love, 0 King of Peace, Make wars throughout the world to cease," tS:c. GALILEE HAPTIST ClIAPEL, IjANGWM.—On Lord's Day, October the 8th, most successful harvest thanksgiving services were held at the above place of worship, when the Rev. W. Davies, pastor, preached morning, afternoon, and evening. At some of the services crowds were unable to gain admission. The chapel had been beautifully decorated, and spoke highly of the diligence and taste of the friends who had taken such a deep interest ui the work of preparing for the occasion. The scene which presented itself spoke eloquently of the goodness and faithfulness of God. On the following day there was a sale of fruit, &c., when a substantial sum was realized towards the building fund. In attendance, enthusiasm, and financial results, the services have far surpassed those of former years. S. DAVID'S ClIURCH, PRENDEROAST. Harvest Thanksgiving services were commenced on Sun- day, October 8th. 'Holy Communion at H.:30 a.m., Matins 11.0 a.m., Evensong at 6.0 p.m. Preacher, the Rector. At 3 p.m. a Fruit Service in connection with the Sunday School was held. The scholars havin<r assembled at the schoolroom proceeded to the Church where they were met by the choir. After prayers by the Rector the children presented offerings of fruit, flowers and vegetables at the chancel step. A short service over, the Rev. C. F. Harrison, M.A., vicar of St. Mary's, gave a very appropriate address which was listened to with marked attention. The Rector expressed his thanks to the children for their splendid offerings, and said it showed the great interest taken by their parents and themselves iii,tlie TIL,,iitksg,i,vilig Services to Almighty God for the harvest. Their offerings would be used in the decoration of the Church for the Harvest Festival on Wednesday. On Wednesday, October I I th, there was Holy Communion at 11.Oa.m., and at 7.3Uthe Harvest Thanksgiving Services took place. There was a very large congregation. The interior of the Church was very tastefully decorated, every available spa-ce having been taken up with fruit, flowers and vegetables. Great credit is due to the ladies of the congregation for the taste dis- played in the decorations. The service commenced with the singing of the Processional Hymn, The God of Abraham praise." The Rector intoned the service and the lessons were road by the Rev. T. Atterbury Thomas, curate of St. Thomas, and Rev. C. F. Harrison, vicar of of St. Mary's. Magnificat and NuncDimittis (C. Simper) and the anthem, "And God said let the earth brimr forth" (C. Simper) were well executed by the choir, th' e soprano and bass solos being effectively sung by Miss Evans and Mr W. James rcspcctivciy. A rr.ost im- pressive sermon was preached by the Itev. E. Humphrey Jones, Rector of Stevnton. A collection was made for the Pem brokeshire and Haverfordwest Infirmary. The service concluded with the Benediction and the singino. of hymn, "Now thank we all our God." On Sunday'' October 1.5th, the services were continued Holy Com- munion at 8.30 a.m., matins 11.0 a.m., preacher, Rev. C. F. Harrison, vic!)i- of St. Mary's Evensoug at 6 p.m. when the Rector preached to a crowded congregation. Collections were made on behalf of the Parochial fund. —.———- ..—
