FUNERAL OF ALDERMAN JAMES STRAKER. I J REPRESENTATIVE GATHERING AND 1 IMPOSING CORTEGE. Amid every manifestation of mourning, the mortal remains of Alderman James Straker, J.P., C.C., were laid to rest in the Old Cemetery on Monday afternoon. The cortege, which left Plas Derwen just before half past three in the afternoon, was an imposing one, but the attend- ance would probably have been much larger had not the weather been so wretched. All along the route taken by the procession, windows of business premises were shuttered and blinds of private houses were drawn, as a mark of respect, and the flag at the Town Hall was hung at half-mast. The representative gathering at the funeral testified to the deceased gentleman's great business and public activities. A large number of gentlemen walked in front of the hearse, and there followed eight or nine mourning coaches, two carriages laden with floral tributes, and several motor cars. The Mourners. The chief mourners were Mr. Gerald I Straker (son), Mr. Edgar C. Straker (brother), Mr. Stanley M. Straker (nephew), Sergt. Trevor I Bowes (nephew), Mr. A. Oliver and Mr. H. Oliver (nephews), Mr. Win. Straker /cousin), Mr. 1. Francis (son-in-law), Mr. G. A. [oxky: Mr. T. Jenkins, Mr. Warren Davies and Mr Edgar Davies (cousins). Five of Alderman Straker's sons were unabL- to be present at the funeral. Three are Oil activ? service, as follows :—O.M.-Sergt. Ernest J. Straker, Headquarters Canadian Contingent Salonica Sergt. Edgar Straker. A.S.C., Egypt: Lieut. Charles Straker, 3rd Mons., France. The other two sons, Fitz and Bertie, are resident in Canada. A pathetic note was struck by the attendance at the funeral of Alderman Straker's dou "Bijou," which was on the box of the rirst coach, in charge of Mr. Morgan, the gardener at Flas Derwen. The Town Council were represented bv t'-e Mayor (Alderman Z. Wheatlev), who was pre- ceded by the mace-bearer (Mr. H. T. Councillors S. T. Ruther (Deputy Mayor) P. Telford, C. R. Plowman, W.
