Distressip, rr t qxn FalaHty j t3 BABY BOY RUN OVER AND KILLED I The circumstances surrounding the distressing fatality at Llwynhendy, when a little lad aged 19 months w;, run over and killed by an electric car, were de- tailed beforo the Coroner and ». iury on Wednesday. Ellen May Jones, 1 Tabcrna b- terrace, mother cf deceased, said thar, her son was 19 months old. About 12.30 on Tuesday deceased and his sister went out to buy sweets. The shop was just across the read. Witness went to pu" the kettle on and then proceeded to tho parlour to see that the children were ;f.c. Witness saw the car approaching and the child running across. She ran our. of the house to try and save him, but on her arrival the deceased was "underneath the car. Witness could not say how' tVv, the car was travelling. Jane Thomas, Greenfield Houtce, Llwyn- hendy, said that she was standing out- side her house and saw deceased standing in the middle of the tram line, loss than 10 yards in front of a car coming from Llanelly. Witness heard the boll sounded but the boy did nothing only moved from side to side. The driver chopped the tram pretty quickly but it ktmrk the de- ceased first. Witness added sho thought the driver had done all he con id to pre- vent the accident. Evidence of the Driver. I John Williams, Greenway strèet, the, driver of the car, said he fiibt. saw the deceased when the car was within ten vards of him. The car was then travel- ling at less than twice a walking pace. Ho had the car well under control, all the brakes being in perfect working order. When witness first saw deceased the lat- ter was between tho track and the foot- path. Witness sounded the beU and pro- ceeded, but when he was quite near de- ceased he turned and stepped, on to the rails. Tho car struck the boy, and when witness got down he found deceased under the back of the car with his head severed from the body. In answer to the jury witness .aid that the life-guard in front was down when ho saw it. Ho could not isay how the child got under the car. The guard acts when anything strikes agaiiint it, and was in perfect working order The jury returned a verdict, of acci- dental death. ;rt; :-Y:.rc'

it is s a i I op That two Llanellyites made themselves conspicuous at the Burry Port Regatta on Monday. That it was very wrong of them to pose as yacht captains to those bewitching ladies from Carmarthen. That tho demise of a cat in the vicinity of Thomas street and the ambiguity of the announcement of its deotli caused como confusion. That the owner referred to the de- ceased feline as poor "-Nlay. I That neighbours took the information as rcferrisg to some deceased relative asd I offered their sincere sympathy. j That a lecal "demobbed" who has just returned from France has nothing but France on the brain. That he is probably surprised that the ladies fight -so shy of him. j That when he has exhausted his "lec- tures francais" he will again be favoured by their company. ) That o, young; lady, well known up the hospital way, was very conspicuous sporting a blue jacket in Stepney street on Tuesday evening. That as she is very rarely seen on the I "clicking parade her friends felt very I suspicious a-s to what had happened to her "wandering" b-hoy. That there wa a terrible rowdy set of k-nuts seated near the Furnace pond on Sunday evening. That many young ladies failed to mus- ter enough courage to pass them. That they preferred to retrace their foots tops before coming within hailing distance. That a rumour reaches our oars that this noisy clique formed the members of a new bachelors club. That judging from the hideous shrieks that were heard from them the young ladies of Llanelly can do very well with- out their company. That a fond young couple in Pare Howard on Saturday evening were quite oblivious of the fine playing of the band. That on a remote seat they listened to the beating of their loving heartv- ,-weetc,r music could not be That. a young devotee of billiards is thinking cf adopting a less expensive form of recreation. That during the holidays he played 12 games. That during the same period he has had to pay for 12 games. We would suggest that he should concentrate his attention for tho future on marbles. That two local musicians (?) who might have known better, made them- selves a nuisa.nce at the recent band con- cert in Pare Howard. That their loud-voiced criticisms of the band marked the summit of ignorant self-assurance. That a local party thoroughly enjoyed themselves at Swansea on Monday. That some of them could relate some queer boating experiences. That curiously enough singular re- straint was shown by a few of the mem- bers. We wonder why ? That the "Avros" at Swansea are n great attraction for a local section of I "sparks." That one gay b-bhoy found himself minus the necessary "pelf" when he ar- rived on the scene. That so great was his passion for a trip to the clouds that he declares that if "uncle" wa.s open his watch would be taft there for a ic\r days. That a young man who has figured prominently in other spheres in our town lite had a hair-raising adventure lately. That in the "dead of the night" while proceeding home he was attacked by two footpads. That very pluckily he landed one of them a "fearful blow" with the result that his victim lay "stretched" for a few minutes. That upon his recovery the footpad and his partner had decamped.—'Twas all a dream. That a. young lady driving a milk cart end hor»e had a narrow escape up Penallt way yesterday. I That but for the prompt attention of some men close by the girl could have had a serious accident. That the two cans of milk were also none the worse for the shaking. I That we wonder what 'will caecotton' j think of these men for saving the milk. )
