J^ANDSEER'S QREAT w Olt,KS. RE-ISSUE OF THE FAMOUS PICTURES, I "THE$ANCTUARY"T™ CHALLENGE" BY S. B. LIPSCOMBE & CO., Fine Art Publishers, 7, HILL'S PLACE, REGENT CIRCUS, LONDON, W. TO BE SOLD TO SUBSCRIBERS ONLY: Price .£:3 3 0 the Pair. (Payable on Receipt.) S. B. Lipscombc and Co. have the honor to announce, that, in obedience to the numerous applications, they have decided to re-issue the above masterpieces of Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A., by the Fac-simile process. This process, the greatest achievement in Modern Art, is the only method by which True Copies of paintings can be obtained indeed, so great is the accuracy observed in the reproduction, that, when hung side by side, it is almost an impossibility to distinguish the copy from the original. Thus, at nominal cost, one may become the owner of a Gallery of Fac-similes of the highest class Paintings in existence. The Pictures have been produced at great cost, and the utmost pains taken to render them true Works of Art. They will be delivered, strained and stretched upon canvas, similar to Oil Paintings. The list of Subscribers is now being compiled, and intending subscribers would greatly facilitated the arrangements of the publishers, by filling in and returning the Order Form as early as possible. The pictures will be delivered in the order that the forms are received. It is needless to eulogise the works of Landseer, so greatly patronised by Her Majesty the Queen, but the following facts may be of interest: "THE SANCTUARY," (Size of Picture 2i1 by 17.1.) See where the startled wild fowl screaming rise, And seek in marshalled flight those golden skies Yon wearied swimmer scarce can win the land, His limbs yet falter on the watery strand. "Poor hunted hart, the painful struggle o'er, How blest the shelter of that island shore There, whilst he sobs his panting heart to rest, Nor hound nor hunter shall his lair molest." From Loch Mayer," a pOUlt. The original Picture is the Property of Her Majesty the Queen. It was painted for W. Wells, Esq., but he gave it up at the request of H.R H. Prince Albert. Was exhibited in the Roval Academy in 1842, at Paris in 18,55, and at the International Exhibition of London in 1S02 and 1872. "THE CHALLENGE," (Size of Picture 2i1 by 1741). This was painted by the Artist at the age of 42 for the Duke, and now belongs to Her Grace the Dowager Duchess of Northumberland. It was exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1844, and has been engraved by Sir Edwin's brother, Thomas Landseer. A.R.A. S. B.
