GREAT RAILWAY MAGNATE. I Mr. Charles T. Yerkes, the railway magnate, who died recently at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York, where he had been lying ill for some time past, was born at Philadelphia on June 25, 1837, and was educated at the Central High School and the Quaker School there. He was for some time in the grain commission trade, and afterwards became a banker, but failed in 1871.
