The Headmaster (Air W. R. Jones), in wel- coming Airs Davies, said that the staif and the children were proud that she had found time to visit them. They were Itlso proud of the fact that her late husband, Air W. Cadvvaladr Davies, was an old pupil of Garth School. Air Davies did much in his day to render it easier for the boys and girls of the present generation -o make their malk in the worid as he had do: Airs Davies also took a deep interest in all mattess pertaining to education was a member of many educational bodies, and as president of the Folk-sollg Society she had done a .great deal t-o popularise "Alawon Gwerin" in tne schools of to-day, Sho had shown her iiheresU ill Garth School before, and had presented it, in memory of her late husband, with a copy of the seal of the University of INales, designed by Sir Ediward Burne-Joues. After the choir, conducted by Air S. D. Wil- liains, the senior assistant master, and accom- panied by Miss V. Crowther, the senior assis- tant mistress, had sung several folk-songs, Airs Davies addressed the children and complimented them 011 their beautiful siyging. She said what a treasure these folk-songs were and how easdy they were learnt by apt pupils. The debt of the nation to Dr. Lloyd Williams for having foulId or unearthed these gems was very great and the wo,'d." sung that afternoon were excel- lent. The tunes, she was sure, would be re- membered by the children for ever, and the words probably would remain in their minds for a long time. The tunes and words were much better than many of tho songs imported from abroad, and which had for too long a period been sung in the schoolg. She was gizitl to see that the spirit of Young Wales was so much to [he fore in the old school and was glad also tlizit. tiie success of the school under its present staff remained as of old. At the end of her address Airs Davies sang a few yersos of the song "Cwvd dy galon," and when she finished, the children vociferously cheered her. Afterwards the Chairman of the -Alai iifrrci-s (Air H. 0. Hughes) gave some reminiscence's of tho period when lie was a pupil a- Guitli at the same time as Air Cadwaladr Davies. He also sang a song, "Heaven is my home," one of the songs he had learnt; when he was a pupil under Air Edmunds, the first headmaster of Garth School. This evoked vehement cheers from all present.. Airs Hughes jn a few remarks said that what lii'lc girls played at long ago was -The Eisteddfod," and the bone of conrteniion always used to be A,Iiic-li of tlio. pllylllg act the part of Aliss Mary Davies, who was at (Kcii- 11 rv>.i tn mrto-t 3 i»irs Davies was I warmlv thanked for her co;dinued interest in the school.
