YU LET IDE PRESENTS AT WARTSKl'S. Wa.rtski's at Christmas is an attractive centre for tliose in searc.i of Yule tide pre- sents. Here one invariably discovers "just tibe right thing." In leather goods there is a good selection. Gloves always seem to come in for eager acceptance. For 10s lid, a modest enough figure, one gets a splendid heavy Mccna-Deer glove, fasten- ing with two buttons, and with gauntlet tops with cowboy fringe, in varieties of tan, siate, and beaver snades. A similar typo of glove, but higher quality, is W a.rtski's saft-surfaced Mocha, at 12s lid, and .Mocha-Deor at lbs lid of perfect Arabian skiiis, careftilly selected. Fur- back gloves for gentlemen or for ladies are 111 profusion, the prices arc mcdet, and a sovoreign will buy a pair fcnafc will last and give pleasure for yoars. Scarves, woollen .,nd Mken, ID plain shades and colour combinations, offer plenty ot scope for selection. Every department at Wditski's is an attraction, and a visit should not be delayed. LIGHTER SIDE OF COLLEGE LIFE. Tae students of the Bangor University College appreciate that, to make life en- joyable, the t'ediam of study miKt be rL" lieved with a modicum of play. In that mood they assembled in strong force at the Powis Hail on Friday, and entered heartily into the proceedings of a mock election. l'nt' fun wrts fast and furious, an excellent caricature of present-day political method's. T'he advent of the Bolshevist amid the din of "bomb" ex- plosions had no terrifying effects on the electors, the majority of whom voted tor the woman candidate, whoise election, like that of Lady AstQf in reality, was greeted with hearty applause. The election nas its sequel at t.:e "Assizes" to-night, when the Labour candidate will be called upon to answer four "serious charges" for bribery and corruption. i DIPHTHERIA CASES. During the past fortnight seven chil- dren have been admitted into the Bo-r- ough Infectious Hospital suffering from diphtheria of a severo type. Most of the children attended one of the infants' • schools, which, with two other schools, was closed on Tuesday. Three of the children have died, two at the hospital and one at home. A London doctor, writing in a contem- porary. remarks that care should be exer- -Lr l ,:6 I cised in giving children imported fruit just now, because the germs of diphtheria, which a,t present prevail* in certain areas, form on the skins afeba.nan«g and grapw, and. as the skins are easily penetrated, they attack the fruit. I he doctor declares that tho opidetmie has been greatly ag- gravated through peojyle eating both grapes and bananas. It is quite safe to give children oranges, the pool of which is germ-resisting.
