I TESTIMONIAL TO SERGEANT SAER. TO THE EDITOR OF THE "WELSHMAN." GIBI Having seen a letter in the WELSHMAN of last week respecting the propriety of presenting a testimonial to Sergeant Saer, who has resided at St Clears about 19 years, during which time he discharged the duties of his office very efficiently, and to the satisfaction of all who reside in this district; I therefore fully coincide with the Rev. D. Williams, of Salem, that Sergeant Saer well deserves a testimonial or some present for the faithful discharge of his duties for so many years ss sergeant in the police force. TO THE MEMBERS OF THE PEMBROKESHIRE AND SOUTH PEMBROKESHIRE HUNTS. GENTLEMEX,—As I find there are many of yon op- posed to the plan I have advocated during the last two seasons of amalgamating both packs now hunting this county, and as there appears from the result of the last meeting to be a difficulty in getting the required subscriptions to properly hunt its northern division. I beg to submit for your consideration another plan, which will, I think, equally well combine sociability with sport, avoid the expense of a change of kennels, and be almost of as much benefit to the town of Haver- fordwest. My plan, then, which must of course be with the consent of the owners of coverts, is to give up to the South Pembrokeshire hounds the country lying south 'L. Y, -JI_ of an east and west line drawn tnrougn xiaverioruwuat, which is marked out sufficiently near for the purpose by the road to Narberth on one side of it, and the road to Broadhaven on the other. South-eastwards of this town this extension of country will embrace the follow- ing coverts- Slebeeb, Picton, Milling Pill, and Boul- ston and southwards and westwards of it, those of Denant, Little Milford, Ashdale, Benton, Rosemarket, Jordanstone, Roddell, Castle Hall, Newton, and St. Botolphs. Such an extension of country being, I be- lieve, most acceptable to Mr Leach's pack, he could hunt it at a small subscription from the members of the Pembrokeshire Hunt. Mr Harries, who, I hope and trust, will retain the mastership of the hounds on this side of the water, would then be able to hunt all the country northwards of this town from his own kennels at Heathfield, and at a less expense. To the north and eastwards of Haverfordwest, he would have the coverts of Cottsmore, Withybush, Southlays, Scolton, Rameswood, Pentypark, Walton, Woodstock, and the extensive ones about Moat. To the north and westwards of the town he would have those of Hook, Itinnaston, Little Traffgarn, Sealyham, Trecwn, Tre- gwint, Heathfield, Priskilly, Stone Hall, Brimmastoit, Great Traffgarn, Lewiston, Camrose, Cuffern, Rind as ton, Hays Castle, and Llether. Now, as they are all distant meets from either Lawrenny or Heathfield, those of West Dairy and Wiston may be hunted by both packs and with thoøe of Llawhadden and Penllyn the experiment may be tried for a season of allowing Mr Powell to hunt them. This would occasionally place the meets of three different packs within reach of Haverfordwest, and would, I have no doubt, be the means of bringing hunt- ing men to that town. As this plan would not require Mr Harries to bring his horses and hounds into the town, or to have his meets nearly so often, a considerable reduction might fairly be reckoned upon in his hunting establiwimeo and consequently a smaller subscription be found suffi- cient to support it. Between both packs we should then always have two meets a week on this side of the country which is as much as any man here is horsed for. In the hunt week both packs would meet ''ear the town, Mg Leach at Denant, on Wednesday, and Afr H"rim at Cottsmore, on Friday this would secure a good attand- ance of ball going men from Pembroke ??°?.j thus materially benefit this town.
