Bowver proposed an addition to Clause 11 precluding the District Elec- tricity Board from supplying electricity to anyone already being supplied by authorised distributor* under any con- tract or agreement, so long as such dis- tributors proposed and were in a position to continue the supply. In opposition to this it was urged that such a clause would conflict with the ob- ject, of the Bill, viz., to supply cheap elec- tricity. LONG < U.\ i iiACiS. in .support ot the amendment it was urged that tlia iniplied permission to cancel or rev-iee long term contracts Trould create a serious disturbance of ordinary business relations, and prevent long term contacts at a low price being made by | consumers and existic? eomnania#. i The Home Secretary said thp a mend incut, was absolutely unnecessaryno ex- isting contracts coy id k. broken without rendering the parties liable in A ft or a considerable discussion the amendment- was withdrawn
