Chapel, on Thursday evening, a social tea was given to mark the return of 32 boys connected with the church who had served in the great war, and to give them a hearty welcome. Powell. and Miw B. Bevan. assisted by several others. Subsequently the Rev. J. Beynon, pastor, presided over an enjoyable enter- tainment, the artistes being: Miss Winnie Evans (Clydachl. Miss Ivy Robertson, Mr Lewis Davies, M. D. 2fenkins, and Mr. R. Walters; accompanist, Miss B. Bevan. Mr. J. Gothin Rosser (loan Dulais) gave an appropriate bardic welcome. The chairman, in hie address, referred with feeling to the nine members who had made the extreme sacrifice. There were also addresses from several others. At Whitland Police Court on Wednes- day, Mrs. Maria Rollins, of Tenby, was summoned for travelling on the G.W.R. without paying her fare- Mr. Eaton Evans (Haverfordwest), ap- peared to prosecute, and it was stated that at Whitland defendant offered to pay the fare to Tenby, but when told aftie had been seen coming out of the down train on the main line, she said she had co-me from St. Clears, but later, at Saundersfoot, she offered to pay the fare from Carmarthen. Defendant, who dtd not appear, was fined 40s. Enoch Jones, Dyffryn Trogin Farm, Clynderwen, was summoned under the Corn Production Act, by Mr. A. Carr Wil- liams. inspector of the Board of Agricul- ture, for not paying the agricultural mini- mum wage to his workman. Jno Harries, and his servants, Thomas Jones and Mar- garet Davies. Mr. T. Howell Davies (Carmarthen) defended. The summonses in respect of Margaret Davies "were with- drawn.—It was stated fo* the prosecution that Jones had been engaged at S36 a year, with board and lodging, and Jno. Harries at 155. per week. Aid both received certain perequisites, but that this altogether did not make n" the amount of the minimum wage.-The defence was that at the end of the year of service in October the ac- counts had been fully paid up to the amount of the miyiimum.-The Bench im- posed fines up to 30s., and also ordered defendant to pay the arrears of wages, which were stated to amount to SI5 18s. 1M.
