The greater portion of the company's employes were present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. After the usual loyal toast, Mr. Samuel Daviei (tVilley and Co.) proposed the toast of the Swansea Gas Lignt Company. He referred to his 22 years' association with the company, during which period the management had undergone four changes. He congratulated Air. George Andiews upon his becoming vice-chairmun of the board, and alao congratulated Mr. R. G. Ciarry upon his new appointment as general manager to the Dyffryn Steel and Tinplate Works. In welcoming the new engineer and manager, Mr. W. R. Johns, he was sure that the company had before it a'highly success-ful future, par- ticularly having regard to the increasing demand for gas due to its economic value. HIGHLY PLACED UNDERTAKING. In doing so, he sketched brie.fly the part played by thosp employes of the Swansea Gas Light Company, who had served in H.M. Forces. Whilst not troubling them with actual figures, he assured them that the number of those who served cons ti hi ted an admirable per- centage of the eligible men of the com- pany. Their boys had seen service in (>V'TY sphere of the war-in engagement;; both aficat, ashore, and in the air. To the honour of those who had made the supreme sacrifice they hoped later to Ull- veil a memorial erected at the works. On behalf of the officials and workpeople who had carried on during their absence, ko thanked them for their sei-vice, expressed great pleasure at having them back again, and extended to them a sincere and hearty welcome home. The toast was received with musical honours, and Chief Petty Officer Caplin, replying on behalf of the Navy, recounted the various places wherein he had seen service, and although conditions at times had been hard, he felt that the reception they now enjoyed more than compensated them. KIND THOUGHT. Pte.
