I MENAI BRIDGE. I MARRIAGE OF WILLIAM EVANS, ESQ., MER- CHANT. I BUTHIN. At young man named Llewelyn Jones was dnving home on Sunday evening, his gig was upset, and himself thrown out. Hia legs were much injured, and the horse was also sadly cut, and is unable to walk at present. The young man, we are glad* to say, is not very aeriouaiy hurt. On Saturday evening the town of Ruthin was thrown into a state of consternation and alarm by the vigorous ringing of the 8re bells. This wa!} to give the alarm of a fire at CaerfyHin, about a mile Md a h.t!f distant. 'J he 6re engine was soon out, and a iarge concouroe of peroous proceeded thither. Happily the fire was soon got un- der and confined to the out-houeea and farm buildings most of which were destroyed. The cause of the hre appears to have been accidental. One old man sup;g,a> ed that it arose from the live ashes of the tobacco pipe of some carelcs* servant, remarking, That is the gene- ral case in Wales always when there is a Sre." GRAND CaoHAL FESTIVAL.—The second annual meet ing of Parochial Choits in connection with the St. Asaph Chora) Association took place at St. Peter's Church, Ruthin, on Friday (yesterday). The afternoon service waa performed in English, a sermon being preach- ed by Lord Bishop of Exford. The evening service was in Welsh, when the sermon was preached by the Rev. Edward Jones, M. A., Vicar of Nantgtyn. Collections were made at each service towards the fnnda of the As- sociation. The Cathedral choir and the choirs of ten parifthea in the Diocese took part in the services. Re- freshments were provided for the choirs at the National Schoolroom; and a cold tuacheon was prepared for visi- tors in the Lion Hotel. The railway company, never failing to accommodate public movements, made ar- rangements by which parties from every station on the line were enabled to attend the Festival at < low fare,— coMequentty a very larga eoncourM of people were pre- *Mt. Sir, —It woutd be a great boon to the ponies and don- keys in Llandudno if there were some one who wnatd tick after their interests. The hoys who genera drive those ponies seem t< whip them for the pieaauce of whipping, when the poor little animus are going as fast iM they can. have witneased many acb of wanton cruelty towards them, especially to two little black poniea which are harneaeed to a. canine, which wert drivett up atid down at a furious pace along the parade one evei)inglut week,;iiter they had been out all day. CHURCH ACCOMMODATION OF LLANDUDNO' To the Edttor of <A< North !t'nft.i Clir(7nicle. Sir,-W e, South country people, have heard a great dea.i of the Livespoot merchant prineM. and the Man- chester cotton iords, rolling in riches, and making their ten') of thousand\¡ a-year. Llandudno seems to be the favourite resort of these grand Mkf), and yet I am asto- nished to find that church accommodation is so very much wanted here, and that subscriptions for the new chutch come in so slowly. I hear, too, that the aerricee at St. George's Hall must be discontinued unless the oSertory is larger. Now, surety sir, this is a great disgrace to the visi- tors. Thit haH M ntted twice every Sunday with & fashionable congregation, and yet enough money cannot be extracted from them for the nmititenanee of Divine Service When one looks around, and sees the number and size aud orna<aentation of the chapds in the t&wn, one Nuahes that there shouid be only one sma)i church, and that the rich should not giv< so much as the poor. If there be one argument for the separation of church and state, it is that so many cone to church because it ia the fashion to do so but who do not rcaHy care the teafit for her. or subscribe to her charities. Now, with the Dissenter, it Is different. Kvery member of & cha- pel takes some interest m it, and gives as largely as h< can afford to whatever is brought before hts notice there. in. I fear, sir, that the English peopte g-rally are be- c <ming more and mora tovere of money—supposing thtt "gMn is godliness. There are, I am sKre, many visitors in Uandudno, who coutd spare their £5 and ;£10 to. wards a new church without denying themseives a single luxury. Surdy this ptaee has a c)aim on them. They are not parishioners, and yet their w Utts are attended to, and they so nU the cuurch that they exclude the right- ful congregation. They ought to be ready and willing to assist the rector and his curate in carrying on the <<m MrftCM a.tfMt, many of which are epecM))y for the \'lSlt<JrB They would be the &Mt to cry out if only the want* of the parishionera were attended to, and yet no one else has any claim on the clergyman. I trust that some of the wealthy visitors may be led by this letter to consider their responsibiiitiea, and t« feel that it is more blessed to give than to receive. I remain, sir, yourx fMthfuUy, I A SOUTHERN COUNTRY PARSON. 1 UMdudnn, August 2<tb. 1864. j
