NON-MAINTENANCE OF A SON. The case against Patrick Bryan, for the non- payment of 4-4 Ils 6d for the support of his son in an industrial school, was adjourned for a month. ANIMALS STHA YING. Thomas Chaplin and John Matthews, youth?, were fined 2s Sd each for causing an obstruction by fighting on the highway in Kolton-road. OBSCENE LANGUAGE BY BOILEU-MAKEES. Mr F. P. Jones-Llovd, solicitor, Barry Docks, appeared for the defence of John. Hewitt, boiler- maker, who was fined 10s for using obscene language and David Morgan, also a boiler-maker, was mulct in 5s for a like offence. THE DISCIPLES OF BACCHUS. Dry throats, never at a discount at Barry, are specially prevalent just new. Michael Hughes, Eugene Craig. Gustave Granath, Robert Mallett. Thomas Power, and Frank Dadds were fined 7s 6d each and Thomas Akers, John Williams, John White, and Thomas Thomas. 5s each, all for being drunk and disord erly. THE CADOXTOX WOUNDING CASE. Joseph Flint, labourer, was again brought up in custody charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding at Hannan's Lodging House, Vere-street, Cadoxton, on the 20th May, one Thomas Marsh, by striking him in the arm with a pocket-knife. Prosecutor, who has been in the Town Hospital, Kmgsland-cresoent, since the day of the offence, now appeared in court with his left arm in a sling, and was seated duiing the hearing of the case. Marsh stated on the Sunday in question he tried to prevent prisoner from beating his wife. and that was the cause of the disturbance. Having been in the street for awhile, he returned into the kitchen, and the prisoner made a dash for him, and stabbed him in the arm. What happened afterwards he did not know. He had no quarrel previously with the prisoner. The knife produced belonged to the prisoner. -Bv the prisoner lie did not say prisoner's wife was a good little woman, and was too good for him. It was over the wife they fell out. (He presecutor) had had a drop to drink. — John O iirien, the land- lady's son-in-law, said he went into the house about 3.30 in the afternoon in question. Marsh was in the back yard, and Flint was dramming the table in the kitchen with a knife. As soon as the complainant came in prisoner rushed at him and stabbed him with the knife produced, which he knocked out of his hand. He (witness) dressed the wounds.—Another lodger. James Morris, stated there had been a row in the house, and Flint, who bad a knife in his hand -aid any man that touches me shall have this." Marsh came in and struck prisoner with his fist, and then Flint used the knife-—Emily O'Brien said she was in the house on the afternoon in question, and sent prisoner wife, who was drunk, to her house, 25, Hunter-street. because her husband was her, bhe took the knifeproduced, which was covered with blood, irom her, and gave it to P.C. Sue corroborated what her nusband had said.—The accused was committed for trial at the Assizes, to be holden at Swansea,

BARRY ACCIDENT HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Hospital Committee of the Barrv District Council was held on Thursday afternoon, the 28th ultimo, at the Town Accident Hospital, Kingsland-crescent, Barry Docks, the members present being Dr G. Neale, J.P. {in the chair), Dr O'Donnell, and Dr P. J. Kelly. The Superintendent (Miss Blanche Sykes) reported that eleven cases had been treated during the past month, including five remaining on the books from the previous month. Of these six were discharged convalescent, relieved 1, remaining in hospital 4. There were in addition five out patients. A number of bills were passed, and the superintendent was empowered to procure an operating table at a cost of A 3 10s.

SOUTH WALES SANITARY INSPECTORS' ASSOCIATION The sessional meetings of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Sanitary Inspectors' Association will be held at Cardiff on the 26th instant. Dr Walford. the medical officer of health for the borough, has promised to read a paper on port sanitary inspection, and several other matters pertaining to the work of sanitary inspectors will j y be discussed. The Mayor (Councillor Brain) will give a luncheon at the Town-hail to the members and associates, who are expected to number about 80. In the afternoon a visit will be paid to the Flat Holm, where the hospital and crematorium will be inspected.

BARRY DISTRICT COUNCIL FINANCE. The Finance Committee cf the Barry Dis-rict Council ht Id their monthly meeting at the Clerk's Office, Barry Docks, on Friday lust, the member- present being Mr E. B. Smitb Jones (chairman). Mr J. L. Da vies, and Mr A. T. White. A large number of accounts were passed for payment at the next meeting of the Council, there being reported to be £1,198 deficit on the gas and water account. It was decided to apply to the Lords of the Treasury for power to borrow £ 150 for the purposes of a public mortuary, jE250 for cloak room, and a further sum for additional :and at the Cemetery. The Collector (Mr T. W. Lewis) reported that he had received the following amounts during the past month :—General distrir-t r:l te, 51.5 abattoir fees, sC 14 15s Sd private improvements, £ 412; licenses, 9.5 13s; general, £474 12s 8d allotments, £1 2-; 6d Gas, £728; watt-r, £ 1,191; services. £ 14 fitting. £ 17 7s deposits, 457 10s. In conm.e ion to the visit of members to London to oppo-e the South Wales Electric Power Distribution Bill, it was stated that bills had passed that day for members' expenses amounting to over £ 54, and others had been passed at previou- meetings.—Mr Davies We will not send thr m to London ugain.—The ^Chairman It seems they are living there. The Chairman intimated thataildepartments with the exception of the Gas and Water Department, contributed towards the cost of printing the minutes.—Mr C. B. Brown stated that this was discussed in the early days, and the Committee decided thac as the minutes were printed for the benefit of the Council that they should pay for ttiem. The Chairman: The Gas and Water Department is a luxury. The Treasuier reported that there was a balance due to the gas and water account of £ 1,013 lIs, and a balance of £ 6,717 14s 7d due from the general account. Bills passed that day for the general account amounted to t Ss4d. and £2,472135 5d on the gas and water account, which would leave a balance due to treasurer of £ 13 571 3s 4d. The Local Government Board wrote asking the Council to receive half-yearly the sum due under the Agricultural Act, which amounted to Iris Gel per annum, and to pass a resolution accepting the same, and to fill up several forms enclosed, a formality which was agreed to. There were thirty applications for the post of caretaker of the overseer's and collectors' office and the following were selected to appear before the Council Mrs Mary Wedge. 52, Station-street Mrs Mary James, 26, Guthrie-street and Mrs Hewiogs, 46, Regent-street, B .rry Docks.
