FINANCIAL AID FOR BARRYI'…
FINANCIAL AID FOR BARRY I' INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL. At a meeting of the Glamorgan Education Committee at Cardiff on Tuesday last, Mr J. Lowdon, J.P., headed a deputation from the Barry Intermediate School Governing Body, and asked for better financial treatment for the school. They (the governors) arranged with the Barry School Board a few years ago for the education of their pupil teachers at the Intermediate School. The School Board paid All per head per annum per pupil teacher, which meant an annual income of A330 a year. When the Barry School Board went out of existence this income ceased, and now they were only paid £ 3 per head. They had suffered a loss, therefore, of £290, and they were unable to carry on the school with its past efficiency. The application of the governors was that they be paid the same amount as they were 1 by the School Board. They always found it difficult to retain their teachers on account of smallness of salary, and their best teachers had been attracted to other places by higher wages. The Governors hoped that the County Council would deal not only with this case, but that they would take into account the whole finance of the Intermediate School. There were 35 pupil teachers at present in the school, and the average amount of grant was between P.2 and 44. The number of pupils in the school at present was 224, and they were paid for A180 only.—After some discussion on the principle of admitting pupil teachers into intermediate schools, it was agreed, on the motion of the Rev D. H. Williams, M.A., that an additional sum of P,6 be paid to the Barry governors in respect of each pupil teacher educated in the Barry Intermediate School, and that an order to cover the sum thus payable be made on the Barry overseers.
FOR NERVOUSNESS, &c.
FOR NERVOUSNESS, &c. Broom-street, Birmingham. Dear Sirs,—I have suffered greatly during the past twelve months from nervousness and weak- ness, and though several doctors have prescribed for me, I received but little benefit until I was recommended to try Gwilym Evans Quinine Bitters. I have already found great relief, and intend to persevere in its use, as I believe it will soon restore me to my usual state of health.— Yours gratefully, JNO. REECE.
