BOXING.
BOXING. "PERCY JONES' BENEFIT. The Llwynypia Baths were crowd- ed on Thursday evening, the 11th inst., on the occasion of a boxing tournament in aid of Percy Jones the, well known Porth boxer, whose health has been undermined as a result of military service. The chief contest was one of 15' three-minute rounds between Young Colcombe(Tylorstown)and Ned Copp (Treorchy). There were some heavy exchanges throughout the opening stages. Colcombe went ahead on points, leading his left to the head and body, and bringing his right across with effect. Copp's experience however, enabled him to wipe off the arrears in the later stages and the verdict was a draw. In a six-round bout, Young Taff (Ferndale) outpointed Eric Jones (Ty lorstown). Exhibitions were given by P Hunt (Treherbert) and W. Evans (Clyd- ach Vale); Harold Jones (Fe:mia .,nd J. Jones (Ferndale) B oyo Driscoll (Ferndale) and T. Thomas (Ferndale); Alf. Ine (Treorchy) and J. Jones (Cwmpark); J. Chislett- (Treherbert) and Tal J-ones (Alaes- teg); Alatt AVells and Tim Leary (Pontypridd); Jim Driscoll (Cardiff) and Harold Jones (Ferndale). It was announcel that Bombardier Billy AArells was unable to be present he having another appointment. Jim Driscoll anl Alat AVells were pre- sented with ebony silver-mounted walking sticks, and it was also an- nounced that AVells had contributed < £ 10 10s. towards the fund. The Rev. F. C. Condy, Dowlais, anl Air Ralph Lile, Cardiff, were the AI.C.'s, and Air Evan Parry, Tylors- town, the referee. PULL PROGRAAfAIE AT PEXTRE. The chief bout at the Drill Hall, Pentre, on Saturday was one of 15 three-minute rounds between Young Allsopp (Trealaw) and Dick Evans (Cwmpark). It was clOsely contest- ed at a fast pace, and Evans gained the decision on points. Allsopp, who appeared at the outset to be the more polished boxer, plied his left with advantage, making judicious use of the ring to avoid his opponent. Evans, however, did most of the at- tacking in which his powerful left stood him in good stead. Eiiiii-ii Toiies (Blaencwm) defeated Jack Richards (Tynewydd) during ten rounds, and in a contest of the same distance 1). Bowen (Cwmpark) was out-pointed by E. Samuels (Treorchy). Young Chislett (Treherbert) gain- ed a verdict on points over D Thomas (Cwmpark) over six rounds.

Small dividends, of course, but they'll grow. Barrister: "Now, sir, you have stated under oath that this man had the appear- ance of a gentleman. Will you be good enough to tell the jury how a gentleman looks, in your estimation." Down-trodden Witness: "I can if you'll stand out of the way." "I thought you said this bathing suit was in fast colours," said Binks, indignantly. "Yes, sir, that's what I snid," returned the hosier. "Well, every wretched stripe on the thing has come off on my back," retorted Binks. "Ah, but wait until you try to get 'em off your back," smiled the hosier, suavely. "Then you'll see."
