Death. In the early hours of Saturday morning, 0 the death occurred of Mrs Eweii, who had resided at Allt Goch for a considerable num- ber of years. Mrs Ewen, who was in her 80th year, had long been an invalid, but had borne her lot with much patience. Her gen- tleness and sympathetic nature had endeared her to all who knew her, and many were the charitable deeds she had done without osten- tation. Her husband had predeceased her by some years, and Mrs Ewen was interred in the family grave at Chester on Tuesday. There were many floral tributes.

Sunday School Trip. The Wesleyan Sunday School has selected Denbigh for their annual trip, which will take place next Thursday.

Gwaenysgor. The New School. is to be formally opened to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon, and among those expected to take part in the ceremony are Mr J. Herbert Lewis, M.P., Mr Summers (Chairman of the County Council), Mr T. W. Hughes, Flint (Chairman of the Education Committee), Dr. Williams,Flint,and Mr A.M.Ralli,J.P. Among invited guests are Mr T. Williams, C.C., J.P., Mr Robert Jones, C.C. (Ffynnongroew). Mr Thos. Hughes, J.P. (Chairman Prestatyn Urban Council), many of the J.P.s in the district, the Managers of the Prestatyn Coun- cil School, and others. The children are to be provided with tea at 3 o'clock, and an hour later the elders will be entertained. The pupils will occupy their new school on Tuesday morning. III m. v

Singing Festival. The Wesleyan Circuit Musical Festival Was held on Tuesday at Groes Chapel, Mr T. Williams, J.P., Prestatyn, presiding. Mr J. Evans (Cynogfab), Manchester, conducted, and Mr R. A. Hughes (Ffynnougroew) accom- panied. Rev. R. Hop wood took the devotional part of the service. There was a splendid muster of singets present, and the Conductor Was very pleased with the rendering he also complimented the accompanist. After the usual vote of thanks, one of the best of musical festivals came to a close.

Mynydd Seion Chapel. The annual preaching meeting will be held here next Sunday and Monday, the ministers engaged being Rev E. Mostyn Jones (Pres- tatyn), and Rev Peter Jones (Bagillt). The services should be all the more interesting from the fact that both preachers were brought up in this district; one at Mostyn and the other at Newmarket. The example of the friends here in engaging the services of preachers from the locality is one which might with advantage be followed by all denomina- tions. It is often the case that ministers are sent for from very long distances, and the large expense entailed can often be ill-afforded.

Accident. The little daughter of Mr J. T. Evans, Pen y-blyn Farm, had a very narrow escape. As she was going to the service on Sunday evening last, a cyclist from Birkenhead lost control of his machine when cycling down the steep hill, and when close to the Wesleyan Chapel the little child was knocked down, and sustained injuries to her head. It was providential that her injuries were but slight, and we are pleased to note that she is re- covering. Only last week we commented upon the dangers of this hill, and condemned the practice of cyclists in riding down at a tremendous speed, at the risk of injuring and killing pedestrians. It is reported that another cyclist, at the end of last week, at the same spot, experienced a narrow escape of serious injuries to himself through his own foolishness in mis-judging his capability to control his machine. As no attention to warnings is given by the "mind- your-own-business cyclists, it is suggested that the proper authorities should erect a notice board at the top of the hill, close to Pendre Farm, warning clyclists of their danger.

Death. With regret we have to record this week the death, at a very advanced age, of Mr Win. Roberts, Penisa, which took place at the residence of his brother Mr Edward Roberts, Penrhwylfa, Meliden, on Friday morning last. He was an old resident of Dyserth, and was highly respected. The interment took place at Dyserth Churchyard on Monday, when the Rev J. Evans Jones officiated.

English Congregational Church. The preacher here next Sunday morning and evening will be Rev E. Alty, Prestatyn, and Mr Gordon Pitchford will render solos.

CONCERT AT TALACRE. The schoolroom was crowded on Thursday evening, many being unable to find accom- modation, when a most appreciative audience assembled to listen to a very interesting pro- gramme of music. The appearance of the room was entirely transformed, the front of the platform being one mass of flowers, ferns, and evergreens, while festoons were hung across the room. Sir Pyers and Lady Mostyn, The Misses Mostyn, and Master Mostyn were present, as was also the Marquis de Sommery. The object of the concert was to assist in obtaining funds for the continuance of the services of the non-Catholic lay teachers, and the gathering was held under the patronage of many of the residents in the neighbourhood. An excellent programme was submitted, and encores were nmerous, so satisfied were the audiences with all they heard. Vocal solos were contributed by Miss Alice Edwards (Gronant) Mr T. H. Jones (Prestatyn), Mr Frank Nicholson, and Mr Alun Nicholson. The two latter also contributed duets, and were joined in a trio by Miss Edwards. Miss Gladys Hughes (Gronant) gave pianoforte solos and Miss Florence Jones (Prestatyn) violin solos. About 80 or more members of the Gwespyr and Gronant Male Choir rendered choruses under the leadership of Mr Alun Nicholson. Master Mostyn gave gramophone recitials. The accompaniments were shared by Lady Mostyn, Miss D. Yeoman (Pres- tatyn), and Miss Gladys Hughes, the whole comprising a programme of a really enter- taining character. During the interval Lord Vaux (who occupied the chair) said he had been asked by Lady Mostyn to thank all the artistes for providing them with so charming and pleasant an entertainment. It had been a great pleasure to him to preside, and he was highly pleased that on this, his first visit to Talacre, he had been asked to attend such a successful concert (applause). Although his name did not imply it, he was really of Welsh extraction, of which fact he was very proud (applause). His father was one of the Mostyn family, so he (Lord Vaux) looked to Sir Pyers as the head. It was very gratifying to find so large a number of people there that evening for the purpose of supporting the schools, and much gratitude was due to Lady Mostyn and all who had assisted in arranging the concert (applause). Sir Pyers Mostyn, who was loudly cheered on rising, returned thanks on behalf of Lady Mostyn. It was his pleasant duty to tender heartiest thanks to Lord Vaux for presiding. and he was sure he was expressing the wish of all when he said they hoped his lordship would soon come again (applause). He joined in expressing thanks to their friends from Prcstatyn, Gwespyr, and Gronant for assisting them. Especially were their thanks due to the choir, and as a Welshman, he was proud of their singing (cheers). "Time may roll on," concluded Sir Pyers, "but Lady Mostyn and I shall never forget your kindness to us" (applause). -+-

ATHLETIC SPORTS. The first annual athletic sports promoted by the Ffynnongrocw Brass Band were held at Moelfryn on Saturday, and were very well attended. There were exceptionally large entries for the following events, and conse- quently good sport was witnessed. On the proposition of Mr T. Jones, (Schools), seconded by Mr R. Jones (Meirion Terrace), votes of thanks were passed to the judges and starters for the sat- isfactory manner in which they had discharged their duties, and also to Mrs Williams for kindly lending the field free of charge. The judges were Messrs C. J. Patters, I. Davies, and W. C. James (Ffynnongroew), Mr J. Price, (Berthengam) and E. Davies (Mold). Mr T. Jones (Northwich) was the starter. There was a refreshment stall on the ground, those in charge being Mrs A. Dennis, Mrs E. Spencer, Miss M. Hughes, and Miss S. E. Williams. The band was in attendance and added to the success of the event by playing selections. The arrangements for the sports had been carried out by a committee of which Mr E. Spencer was hon. treasurer and Mr J. Parry, hon secretary.

Annual Trip. On Monday, members of the Wesleyan Sunday School went to Colwyu Bay for their annual trip. Starting from Talacre Station by 'the 8-49 train they returned at 6-33 p.m., after a most enjoyable time.

The Quarries. We understand that more masons and labourers were engaged this week by the Talacre and Gwespyr Stone Company. This is a great help to the villagers and is much appreciated. Across the Herring Pond. Lord and Lady Mostyn, accompanied by their eldest son, the Hon. Edward Mostyn, and their daughter, the Hon. Gwynedd Mostyn, left England for Canada last Friday. After spending some time in the Dominion and the United States, it is their intention to visit China and Japan. They are not ex- cepted home until early in January.

Shipping. S.S. Ada Mary Short arrived at Mostyn Deeps on Tuesday, August 25th, with a cargo of iron ore. Tonnage, 5,500. 0

MOSTYN FLOWER SHOW. A Great Success. On Wednesday the annual show of the Whitford-Mostyn Garden and Agricultural Society was held in Downing Park by the kind permission of Sir Wm H. Tate, Bart. The event was voted a great success, the entries being considered of a higher standard than ever, and there was a large attendance of the general public. The chief prize-winners in the horticultural section (class for householders above e9 rental and amateurs not having professional gardeners) were as follows :—Messrs C. J. Batters, Tanlan Hall; J. Williams, Post- carreg; Tudor Eyton, Llanerchymor; W. H. Hasler, Upper Downing; Fugler, school- master Elias Jones; and the Rev. Vaughan Jones, vicar of Mostyn the Rev. J. R. Owen, and J. Inglis (Agricultural hon. sees.), and Mr C. F. Malbon (sports hon. sec).
